Any Alternatives to Solid Mounts for a 63
The 63 V8 Tempest & Lemans use the same motor mounts as the early big cars...so I am reposting here hoping for advice.
I finally have my 1963 Lemans on the road... with a fresh 535 pump gas build from Butler. 670HP/716TQ . My previous 455 iron head combo broke the stock motor mounts so I bought solid mounts at Norwalk for the new engine. The car is very much a street car (pump gas with PS, PB & OD) not liking the solid mount vibration ... but will learn to live with it if I have to. Any sources for Poly Engine mounts to fit a V8 63 Crossmember? Or anyone know of a place that can convert rubber ones to Poly? Any help would b e great! Will post this in a couple of other sections too. Thanks, Todd |

Attach a turnbuckle to the left side of the engine, adjust it so that there is 1/16 of an inch clearance so the rubber mounts can do their job as isolators, and the turn buckle stops the engine from destroying the bond on the mounts. This also removes the problem of solid motor mounts distorting the block under load causing possible engine failure.
The subject has been discussed on PY for years, do a search on PY using turnbuckle, plenty of info already posted. |

Agree. A heim joint bolted to the head with a short link the the frame rail with some bushings and washers from a shock absorber works great as a streetable travel limiter.

You can also inject silastic into the stock mounts to make them a kind of solid rubber mount. Not as tough as full polyurethane but much harder to break than stock
