Hot side pipe
Some asked to see my hot side piping. I was able to leave everything as is when I pulled my motor so here you go. Everything is incredibly dusty from sitting in in my shop so long

Looks like you did some nice fabrication work there with your single turbo set-up.
Reminds me a lot of the 60s/70s installations of the time. Everything is nice and short and no extra volume in the exhaust system from "Magazine" pipe sizes. Nice Job. What size turbo did you use for your install? Tom V.

Its just the basic s475 with the 132 housing. I might do a round 2 build thread once my blocks back

I like how simple it is i think some people over think what they need for a certain hp level when building the hot side no need for actual headers below 1000 hp LS guys are making 800 with manifolds.

Thanks Gregg. I was going for the clutter free engine bay even tho I can literally stand between my motor and radiator in this boat. Everyone who sees my install says why didn't you run all the piping up front with all this room. I am however adding some cold side piping to try to get the hat at 6/12 oclock

Good job on the routing! I like it ... I've always wanted to do a std. facing log deal.. Nothing beats the durability of the heavy logs !

Hope you have a nice 3/8" radius on the PVC Inlet Pipe to the Turbo. A sharp edge at that location basically gives you 60% of the flow of a Radiused Inlet. Food for thought, let that turbo Suck.

I'm not sure I follow you Tom. Do you see a problem area? I think its 5" to 4" rubber reducer right off the compressor then about 2ft of 4" pvc then a 45° angle for air near the inner fender. Normally a 4" k&n style filter on the end for street driving but I made a chicken wire cap for the track (basically no filteration. Just keeps stones out)

Looks like he' s referring to a trumpet type of a deal on the inlet of the piping...

At the end then where I have the screen cap? Usually have a filter there.

My car club had a tech day at a air filter test lab years ago, the trumpet on the inlet of a pipe did make a noticeable difference.

Here is a little video with low airflow, but it does a good job to start to explain the importance of bellmouths in intake tracts. There's a good article in Dragzine I think about Procharger's work with their bellmouth. If I can find that one I'll put it here also.

Here is the Dragzine article. It only looks at a bellmouth directly connected to the supercharger. Tom Vaught has already talked about the loss an open pipe end will experience. Just some stuff to look at. |

Nice. Now how far from the compressor or does it not matter? I constructed that 2ft of pvc so that I'm not pulling hot air from my manifold area.

I've got two radiused ali bellmouths at my turbos inlets like in the Turbonetics photo, I then have a 6" ID hose clamped over the outer edge of the bellmouth which goes to a high pressure area at the front of the car.

How I did mine. Wanted to isolate the incoming air from underhood heat the best that I could. Drawing air from the area in front of the core support.
