I for one would like to see proof of that. I don't remember them being done that way. |

Do a search for "painted door latch" and see how many topics have been started about this. Here is one of many....

That is one Great looking car in Vedoro Green!
Agree with 400 4spd, the door latch, screws and striker were all painted when the car was built but the paint didn't adhere very well to the zinc plated screws & latches. Here's a few pics from my '68 wagon's door jambs w/original paint on them. Under the grime on the latch is body color paint. Look at the pics & decide for yourself. Back to topic! |

How long have you owned this car? Did you buy it new? I ask because I can guarantee you my 67 's were never painted, and I do not remember any of the cars I worked on of that era having them painted. Nor the door latch striker either. Charles |

Charles, it's about after 1967 models. Although to be technically correct, 1968 models built during calendar year 1967 came painted. |

Thanks for all the comments. I owned it since 2010, numbers match, a/c auto trans. I like the screws unpainted also, but either way I am real pleased with the quality of the work.

My 68 GTO had them all painted when I got the car in 76 still in factory paint. Lots of the interior window hardware (bolts/screws) were bare metal, the latch screws and strikers were painted.

I come back to apologize for being WRONG.
Having this subject of the hardware painted or not still in my mind bouncing around, I found the 68 Concours PDF on this site. https://www.gtoaa.org/pdf/concours.pdf On page 24 it plainly says, "All door fasteners painted body color as part of factory assembly on 1968 and later models. Strikers, latches, and fasteners natural finish on 1967 and earlier models." Again, I apologize. Dad was right, "You learn something every day." Charles |

No need to apologize. Like you, 67's are what I know best, and without a doubt you know them better than myself or anyone else here.
I'm not an expert at anything, but when I started restoring the later GM models I had to prove to myself this was the correct way, so I researched. I learned that all of the GM divisions made the same switch regarding the painted hardware, at least on the A and F bodies. The full size, I have no clue. |

Thanks dude.
I made another mistake above. That is the GTOAA PDF for all years, not just the 68's. Although, at times it has errors in it anyway, but they are human also. Like you, I know MY 67 GTO intimately after all this time, I am still quite capable of errors also. Charles |
