My "bought new" 64 GTO has the vin on top of the left frame rail where Pecosbill describes it. I think maybe in a few other places as well.

[QUOTE=Pecosbill I've also heard that some have one on the firewall behind the heater box.[/QUOTE]
I'v also heard this but when I had my 67 on the rotisserie I checked that area and couldn't find anything |

My 69 GTO didn't have a VIN stamp under the heater box. Had a 70 Formula, that car had the VIN stamped in 2 locations on the firewall.

I have owned several 2nd gen F-bodies and everyone of them has had 1 or 2 VIN#s stamped on the firewall under the heater case or A/C suit case. Never found one anywhere else though.

Same here, every 2nd gen I've checked had one under the heater case.

I've had several 64's. One did indeed have the VIN stamped into the top of the frame rail. My convertible, however, did not. It only had a part number and date stamped into the side of the frame rail at the rear left wheel.

I wonder if it's because of the lack of a full chassis on the F bodies? The rear frame rail would be relatively easy to swap out?

I've also thought the reason F bodies have the numbers under the heater box is because they are unibody. I wonder if X body Venturas also have them in that location, I've never had the opportunity to check.

It varies. I know I've heard of some A bodies with the number in both locations...framerail and firewall under the heater box.
