Supercharger Displacement
Would anyone have a list or a link to a list for most of the more popular superchargers and how many ci they displace per revolution?
Stan

Talk to Pontiac Jack. I posted a list for the Superchargers many years ago for the Roots stuff.
Metric stuff is easy. 2.3 Liter supercharger, 3.3 Liter supercharger, 5.0 (Wipple Race) supercharger. Ford and Eaton had for years in production a 60 cubic inch and a 90 cubic inch supercharger. Tom V.

Thanks for posting the link to that list (again) John.
I can add only one item to the list- the "small bore" 6-71 (with normal-helix rotors) is approximately 353 c.i. per revolution. I've got one on my V8 hemi- I estimated the area by tracing the end of a rotor on .1" graph paper and "counted the squares". Although it's not exact, I verified the method by doing it with a "normal bore" 6-71, and came out within a few c.i.

Thanks everyone for the information. Just shows how the memory sometime may be right. From many years ago I remembered the original GM system as the second number in this case 71 as being a size and the first number 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, etc. as being a modifier.
► 136 / 2 = 68 ► 210 / 3 = 70 ► 280 / 4 = 70 ► 420 / 6 = 70 ► 448 / 8 = 56 Looks like the GM / Detroit Diesel somewhat followed this up to a point. While others did not. Stan

I thought the numbering for Detroit diesel blowers was number of cylinders and displacement of one cylinder (6-71 was for a six-cylinder with 71 c.i. per cylinder, etc.). No?

The supercharger was designed for the engine application 4-cylinder roughly 71 cid per cylinder, 6-cylinder roughly 71 cid per cylinder, etc. Case diameter and dimensions basically the same except for rotor length and case length. The extra capacity (Cubic Inches per Supercharger Model) was made up by the increases length as mentioned above. Has always been that way Jack as you know. Tom V. At one time I had a list with the actual rotor lengths (not a reverse calculation deal). There was NO 14-71 diesel engine ever made to my knowledge in the original family. Also in the wiki article unless you read the words carefully you assume cross-breeding 4-71 supercharger on a 6 cylinder engine was done (like Hot Rod guys did). But the lifeboat with the 6 cylinder engine mentioned had a 4-71 supercharger ADDED later for a movie. Here is a link to an old wiki thread I had saved from a few years ago. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit_Diesel_Series_71 Tom V.

Thanks for the additional piece of Data on the B&M unit. Maybe if someone is interested in that specific Supercharger they can use that data.
