...mulling things over...
Comp 265 Dual Energy Seat-of-the-pants - wise, Pretty much the same as a Tripower cam or something completely different? Ponchy

Looks to me to be just under a Summit 2801. 211/221 @ .050, .442/.465 lift, 110° LSA. Of the two, I'd much prefer the 2801, for the 112° LSA, if for no other reason.

" Looks like the '66 Tripower engines had either an 068 or 744 cam. So, that CC cam has less duration, but more lift than either Tripower cam. http://www.wallaceracing.com/enginesearch4.htm If you have press-in studs, I'd go with an 068 clone. https://www.autozone.com/internal-en...aft/107135_0_0 https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/m...s/spc7/4441260 Last edited by ponyakr; 11-11-2017 at 09:34 PM. |

The 744 is the original Ram Air cam and the second (milder) SD-455 cam. (btw, I think you meant to reference This Page)
The Summit cam seems to have a narrower power band and comes in at a higher RPM. It's also just a shade bigger. ...but how does the Comp cam feel. That's what I'm asking.

The 265 DEH will be excellent for a 389 up to 4900/5000 RPM
Seat timing and .050 right where they need to be. If your compression is higher than 9.0 I would go a notch larger. |

"...(btw, I think you meant to reference This Page)..."
Have no idea what you meant by this. I posted a link to the Wallace engine ID site. If you enter 1966 389 engines, at the bottom of the list, you'll see tripower engines listed. Unless the Wallace info is incorrect, those engines came with either an 068 or a 744, and no others. http://www.wallaceracing.com/enginesearch4.htm I've read that a 112-114 LSA will provide a smoother idle, and more vac, than a 110 LSA. Therefore, I'd prefer at least a 112. Not gonna get into another LSA debate. Everybody can run what they choose. "....but how does the Comp cam feel. That's what I'm asking. " I have no idea. I haven't used that cam & would never buy one. To me, there are several better cams, in that range. My personal opinion only. As far as I can tell, the Crower 60918, the Summit 2801, the SP 1022, and the Spotts 068 High Lift, are all exactly the same cam, probably made by the same company, probably CMC.
http://camshaftmachine.com/ And, the Summit brand is cheaper. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/s...hoCt9QQAvD_BwE https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cro-60918 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pontiac-068...9UwqDI&vxp=mtr Out of all the cams I listed, if I had to make a guess as to which would make the most seat of the pants power, I'd guess the Voodoo. I can't prove it one way or the other. Last edited by ponyakr; 11-12-2017 at 01:36 AM. |

Yes, the CompCams 265DEH is basically the same as the tri-power cam, i.e. the 068 'S' cam, with 1.65 rockers. In other words, it should "feel" and perform roughly the same but will have a choppier sounding idle.

I have that cam in my 8.5:1 400. 14" vac at idle. 3310 carb. No problem laying down a pair of strips, but won't cause the tires to go up in smoke. When I'm beating on it, I can easily buzz it up to 5500, usually shifting between there and 5300. It will run up to 6K although not pulling hard much past 5500. That engine used to be a 10.6:1 with an H-O HC02 cam. Absolutely no comparison.

Pastry Chef recommended the Lunati voodoo 702 for my 400 build and I couldn't be happier with it. Sounds like it runs just like Tooskis. Definitely can't go wrong with one of his suggestions in my opinion
And before i forget thanx Pastry Kevin |

Sprocket, Pastry_Chef and tooski, thank you for your comments. Much appreciated.

Thanks, glad to help.
Remember, higher static compression (above 9.0) will trend to a larger cam. Otherwise cylinder pressure may get too high and it could detonate. |

Exactly!
Thanks again. =)
