Default Sniper efi speculation. Thoughts?

As has been stated before I’m gonna run the sniper fuel system with the dual sync distributor for timing control etc. I have the tank setup and the distributor but I haven’t bought the actual unit yet. I was talking to a buddy tonight and and interesting topic was discussed. How long do you think holley will support the sniper before they move on to other products? The reason I ask is because after my motor is done and broken in (this summer) I will be focusing on body work and interior. I expect this to be at least a 3-4 year project before everything is buttoned up and the cars on the road full time. I’m not worried about the fuel tank cause it’s a pretty standard setup for fuel injection so I think I’ll be ok there but I don’t want to get the car all buttoned up and have a fuel injection system that has been replaced by the latest whiz bang unit. I was thinking about sending the dual sync distributor back holding on to the fuel tank and just holding off to closer to the completion date where I know it will be on the road for good. I’m breaking in the engine this summer on a stand with a carb and an HEI then putting it in the car while the front sheet metals off and then send it for paint. Then drop it off at the glass shop. Then last the upholstery shop then I will be ready to totally button up the drivetrain. So I guess my basic question is should I send back the dual sync distributor or just keep amassing parts like I have been until I need them. Think the sniper will be supported in four years?

I woudn't count on it.

I'd use a carb or an OEM-based TBI until the project was far enough along to pick the permanent fuel delivery system.

Others might disagree.

What's your worry for the system? It uses oem style injectors and sensors and it's software is basically holley HP light.

As long as there are other products on the market in that class, I would bet that Holley keeps it around in some form or another. TBI based aftermarket EFI units have been around for over a decade now and are finally getting to the point where they are actually pretty decent. They are only going to get better and more cost effective.

With that being the case, it's a good idea to wait until you need it. The systems that will be on the market in 3 years time will likely be better than what is currently available right now.

Food for thought. I have to keep an old crappy windows XP computer around because the “Powejection” software doesn’t run on anything newer. Plus after it sits for several weeks unused, it needs to be “reminded” as to why its sitting on top my engine with the laptop.
One reason Im still not getting sucked into the whole FiTech religion around here. Dodge all ya want but its the same guys who abandoned me with my $1900 Realtek system. Obviously keeping in perspective that any technology is obsolete as soon as its purchased.
Your mileage may vary ...

I have had a TBI system and am working on a port injection both run by a Megasquirt box. There is a lot of support on these . Billk

Considering how fast the electronic market moves, it is best to wait as long as you can before you buy. But some things won't change, the dual sync is a great unit, and doubt it will change much.

Holley does still support older systems, they go way back, and even provide replacement parts. But there's always improvements in tech, so waiting is still the best advice.

Worst comes to worst you can install a proper standalone ECU to run the Sniper EFI hardware. Happens a fair bit down here when punters get sick of the limitations of Sniper/FAST/FiTech computers

Exactly, a throttle body is a throttle body, for the most part.

So what's popular there, AEM stuff?

I have a friend with the same system, all of your issues/problems and a few others. He had a big tag on his battery about not disconnecting until the motor has been off for so many seconds, and kept an old laptop handy as well. We yanked it all off about a year and a half ago, and installed a FAST EZ 2.0 system. He has been VERY happy with the FAST system.

Oh, I put the Powerjection system on ebay, and got more than I expected for it :-)

Well its a moot point now because I found out by way of a daughter who cant keep her mouth shut that my Father In Law bought me the basic kit for Christmas. I guess that will speed up the building of the motor so I can at least hear it run even if the car is years away from being done LOL

Nah, nobody really uses AEM stuff. We have a lot of good options for standalone ECUs - Haltech, Motec, Microtech, Wolf, Adaptronic, Autronic are all Aussie-made, Aussie developed.

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

Until Fitech came along, the aftermarket fi world looked niche and stagnant to me. It was still not cost effective for what you got.

Could fitech go belly up? Sure. I don't think they will. They seem to be the innovators, and nobody got off their fat behinds to push the market until they did.

The price point on fitech and sniper is such that they can be replaced if they become obsolete without murdering the wallet.

Tell the father n law that he can take care of body work and paint too if he wants to go in early for next Christmas. Beat next years holiday rush.

Yeah I have good in laws. I bought the tank and the distributor and he bought the throttle body. Even paid enough attention to me talking to know I wanted the dichromate one instead of the polished.
