Need pics / ref for '66 2+2 Molding Clips
Trying once again to get some traction on the 2+2 project.
Looking for some visual reference to track down the retainers used at either end of the doors, and the ends of the sections between the wheelwell and bumper. Restoration Specialties has the nylon clips for the ovaled holes - inexpensive, in fact. They may even have the right pieces for the ends of the moldings, but need to know which ones to use first. Naturally, I threw down for the 1966 Pontiac molding and clip catalog (no help) as well as the complete Parts Catalog repro (ditto), Only listings in either under -5437 are for "Molding and Clip Package" but not the individual retainers. Picking up a parts car soon, it may reveal a few secrets, but would like to pre-empt the possibility of disintegrated 50+ year old plastic. Thanks in advance! |

On my 2+2 there are no clips in the body holes. There is a clip the fits in the SS piece with a screw sticking out of it that slides in the SS. The screw goes through the hole and held in place with a plastic cap nut. I will try to dig mine out to get you a pic.

Sorry for the delay - those look very similar to what I found in my 2+2.
Thank you for taking picks and posting! What are you doing for the "replacements" ? Where did they come from? I found a clip that had what I'd best describe as a 'hurricane eye' made of white nylon plastic that may have allowed for some 'variation' in the piercings, so the moldings could line up nice and straight. Thanks again, Brad! |

Sorry for my delay. Had to do some digging in the storage unit. Everything went into it by just stacking all the boxes when I moved back from NC to KC. Attached are photos of what was on my trim. I'm missing a few pieces so I have not put mine on the car. I had looked at trying to shape some Delrin plastic in the same shape as the clip and then put a screw through it. 63GP's idea using the spring clip looks like it would work. I will probably try that before I go try my idea if it fits up tight.

Not sure if they have them anymore but Fastenal fasteners had a nylon one that was similar to the clip one.

Found these on Epay. A little pricey as usual.
