Default 67 GP clutch spring

Can anyone tell me where the clutch return spring is supposed to be connected to the frame? The picture is a little crooked. I can't find the old spring I took off 3 years ago and only have the new one I ordered from Ames. Not sure if it is the right length? There are 3 holes in the frame but the only one it will easily fit leaves a lot of slack in the spring?

It should be on a straight plane.

Thanks for the responses. I am beginning to believe I have the wrong spring.

Does anyone know where to buy the correct spring? It doesn't look like Ames has one.
