Does any one know if you can swap the 61 cross member for a later one with better clearance for the exhaust pipe routing. The 61 is like a piece of pipe which causes you to route the pipes through next to the transmission tail shaft.

I bought a used one that looks like our hosts PR282, along with long branch headers and 2.5" X pipe exhaust from RARE. I got it from Franks and he listed it as 64-67 A-Body. I had to weld about 1 inch on each flat end to support it properly. Also put in a TH400 trans with short tailshaft.
I put the pipes in the humps in the crossmember, had no issues. It works great.

The Great Apple deleted my pictures..The job is very straight forward, the only issue you may have is bolting the tranny to it. I did a slim jim first and had to weld a plate in to get it like I wanted. When I put the TH400 in I just cut out the plate. You can slide it fore and aft to get it where ever you want it, and just drill new holes for the side mounts. Drill another hole for the brake cable hanger as required.
