Bathtub may not be the most efficient by today's standards but it's the coolest.😊
Nice numbers!!!!

Is this a race or street car, or both. I always though duel carbs and/or a tunnel ram type intake raised the HP/TQ numbers but here it is nothing but power down low. May I ask the compression and cam you used to make this happen. Going to be fun, that's for sure. Very nice.

The car is setup for street duty... not really capable of handling the full torque.. yet!
Figured I would start with a stout long block to start upon for the street .. once my kids are out of the house ... more track duty. The current drive line setup is: a TCI stage II 700R4 with 3500 stall, 8.5" 3.42 ratio rear with upgraded internals and coil over Ladder bar setup. Hope that my 275 Drag radials will be my "Fuse" .. till I can acquire serious track worthy driveline components. Till then it is a cruiser / Weekend street stalker. (no cage) Hope to get the hyd roller cam details from Butler (if it is not guarded info) when I recieve the engine. For converter selection ... Butler shared some cam specs (to my memory) 240/250 duration w/ 114 LSA ... no other details..... the lift was small enough that Butler did think I needed a stud griddle with my 1.65 rockers. I believe that the engine is 10.9 compression ratio but it may be a low as 10.5 Todd Quote:

Was the intake one of those cast in the run for late model heads?

Typo I meant Butler said the cam lift was small enough that I didn't need a stud girdle.
The intake is a first gen repop that had old style cross over .... Belonged to late Dave Johnson (White Warrior) and had a cross over from a alum 66 tripower type of intake welded nicely on .... Most would never know by looking. I looked for the past 5 years for a Bath tub.... If you find one buy it .... They rarely come up for sale! Todd I |

Thanks for the info. Seems like one heck of a mild yet very powerful street motor. I assume the intake was to complete the "look". It does do that. Did you try any other intakes or carbs or was this the way it was going to be no matter what. Sounds like the perfect street set up. Let us know if you do a chassis dyno or a trip down the track. Hope to see you in Norwalk.

Todd -Bart had one a few years ago I thought about-my pocket book was happy someone else got it first
Saw and talked to Dave a lot at the original NMCA races early 90s when he ran the White Warrior in NSS, I was running Top Stock. First bathtub I ever saw was in college and one of the biology grad students I had as a freshman was into early GTOs and had one. I was still a Chevy 409 guy back then.

The cam IMOis small for the CI.I built the intake a few years back.Skip,it was the one on my KRE headed 455 that made just under 600 HP on Joe Sherman's dyno.I think this engine could have used 10 more duration on both to wake it up.The TQ number is bad ass.Going to take something to hook it up.Tom

Dude, nice set up, that thing is going to be hard to hook up. If you are not used to driving a higher HP car be careful as you will need to learn to respect the new found power.

I took Todd for a ride in my 62 Tempest to kind of give him a feel for
what he can expect from his own car and he's going to have A lot more torque then my little 440 ci. GT. |

Time for an update!
After nearly a year of sorting out major bugs after the 535 install .... glad to say I am fnally getting to drive this thing! Mainly everything required mucho fabrication changes to safely accomodate the added power/torgue: Revised rear suspension to better adjustable shocks (QA1), Ditched the track locator for a custom panhard bar setup, new rear internals, c clip elim, 1/2" fuel system tank to pump, SS fuel line to carbs, upgraded all brakes & lines, master, booster, elec vacuum pump now required, 1.9 HP mini starter, revised the Maddog Headers collectors to band flange, new 3" 316 SS full exhaust with 3.5" QTP cutouts, New Steering box, pump, New Trans cooler & lines, solid Motor Mounts, Customized Pro Ractchet shifter to fit into stock 63 console, New Hood with SD Scoop & hole to clear Bath tub setup! Litterally done the night before Norwalk ... had to clean and detail the car in the hotel parking lot for the Friday show! Norwalk was a blast hanging with the fellow Little Indians ... and best of all ... my dream car (the one that inspried this sickness in me seeing it in '88 with Arnie driving it at Cordova) was at Norwalk ... the "Mule" Prototype 63 Super Duty Tempest (Bill Blair's old car) .... THANKS! Ken Freeman for bringing this treasure for me/everyone to drool over! Ken was cool enough to park next to me for a photo op! I even won 1st place in the Street Class catagory at the Norwalk judged show! Now I need seat time to learn to control the wolf on the street.... My fab guy Scott said after a test drive .... in a very Non-PC way "this car is Retard fast and powerful" ... not meant to offend anyone here! Thanks to Scott Overcracker & Gary Tallent (Blue Ghoast) for the help/good work! |
