Who knows 74 GTOs?
I wanna lighten mine up. Can I put bumpers/brkts from a 68-72 Nova on my 74 GTO?? Don't worry, I'll save all the orig. parts. THX

No (well maybe but i dont think it will look good), but you can lighten the stock bumpers and get rid of the bumper shocks and move it in closer to the body.

I have lightened and moved the front bumper in, still havent gotten to the rear but will eventually. Its amazing how much weight you can take out of these bumpers

I don't like the way the originals look. Very clumsy looking.

The nova bumpers have a different contour so i dont think they would look good, imo.

If you search posts by me, look for a minitubbing thread and you might see some pics of my front bumper moved in.

You can move them in but then it messes with the filler panels. Pulling the inner bracing from both the front and back bumpers, removing the 5mph mounts/shocks will net you some serious weight reduction. You can make your own brackets to remount the bumper "shells". My front bumper assembly now weighs around 35-40lbs with my new mounts attached compared to the almost 85lbs it was prior. And that doesn't include the 15lbs a piece for the OEM bumper shock mounts. Roughly the same numbers for the rear bumper. I've done this to both cars. The only way to go lighter is fiberglass. I have those for mine but haven't installed them yet. With those, I'll make aluminum mounting brackets to maximize the weight reduction even more.
There is a bunch of spots on these cars that you can lose some weight, just depends on what you want to do.

But back to your original question about 68-72 bumpers?? No.
There are a ton of subtle differences between the 68-72 X bodies over the 73-74 X bodies.

I was told that the bumper on my '74 Vent was a Nova bumper. It was there, when I bought the car.

Thats a 68-72 Bumper. More than likely a Nova. 71-72 Venturas had a little bit of a curve to them, I think. But DEFINITELY not a late 73, 74 bumper.

That doesn't look bad to me at all. Better than the battering ram that's on mine now!!
