Hmmm, looks like afterwards, Pontiac put a hit out on the Cat

Nice to see a couple of kids dressed up. We don't even see that much in church these days.

Yes, I know what you mean. That car and body style still seem new to me.

That show car could have been a soft window car. Porsche had a soft window production Targa in those years.

Is it a Pontiac or an Olds Cutlass Supreme? I hauled both out of Canada back then. I see it has T-tops so it could have been a one-off with a Targa style rear window. None that I know of ever came out of the GM Plant in St. Therese with the rear window area like this one has. If it was built in St. Therese none of us ever saw it. It could have been reworked in a custom shop and under cover sent on to the auto show.

I did a web search and it is an '80 Grand Prix.

As a side note..... believe it or not you could get a 1980 GP with a standard transmission. I did deliver a few back then. They'd be a rare car to have today. https://www.bing.com/images/search?q...04&FORM=IQFRBA Right side near bottom of the page.... red interior.

Never saw any back in the day, so it must be a pretty rare car. I remember when everyone was convinced that there would never be any more convertibles. T-Tops were all the rage, and so were aftermarket sunroofs and even Targa tops. But I never saw a T-Top combined with a Landau-style convertible top. Actually a pretty neat concept.

Looks like Oldsmobile center caps in the wheel covers.

Seems like the chassis designer might have needed a few lessons in basic engineering.

It doesn't look nearly as "scary" as most dragsters of that era- floating hubs rear axle, a truly substantial roll bar, etc.

Any idea who? where?

For those who don't know his team owner decided to only run the "major" races after Pontiac had to drop their support due to GM enforcing their no racing rules. So for about 1/3 of the races that year he had to beg and borrow cars to drive in the remaining races. He placed well enough in multiple cars that were various brands from multiple teams, to win the drivers championship. I still think it was an incredible feat!

I was very sad when he Died the following year.

Those are real wire wheels. They are Appliance Fine Wires with Pontiac arrowhead center caps.

I can remember when gasoline was that color...and smelled good too...but I wouldn't recommend it for hair tonic.
