Default The age old question of battery tray for 66

Pulled my tray out to paint and found some of it was missing. I went back through some old posts and found where someone had used an A body tray and scabbed it into theirs. I was looking at doing the same thing. I noticed that Ames is now selling one for a 65. Looks like it would fit right in by only moving the side mounts forward. Has anyone tried this? Hate to spend $95 just to cut it up. But hey, we've all probably done it for something.

Even better would be if SOMEONE would produce one. HINT HINT

I know Les over at Pontiac Paradise was blog posting for a while that
he was working on repopping it.. but havent heard anything more in a few years...

Took me about 3 years to find a good one to go in my Ventura and have
a backup thats fair or a little better..

For all the good things that Ccass posted about over in the INDUSTRY NEWS
section... I look through that list.... A body, A body, A body, A body,etc...

It would be nice to see a few more 63-68 B body things.. that batt tray would be an obvious choice

I sent a note to Les earlier tonight. We'll see what he says.

Got a reply from Les at Paradise. He is looking at maybe late summer. Still working on the funds for the tooling to produce.

He is producing the 65 tray. I wonder if he supplies our sponsor.

Mine has some life let in it. Got it soaking in EVAPORUST to at least stop the carnage. I think I'll buy a 64 tray to cut up and patch up mine until Les comes through.

I cut up a GTO tray and patched in on one of my cars. Worked OK. Can't see the ugly bits.

I went with a 64 because it looked like the stamped grooves lined up better with the 66. If it don't work I'll get a gto tray. I almost bought both since they were inexpensive.

Actually, I am pretty sure the 64 B body tray is the same tray that
was used in A bodies from 64 -67(?) .. a friend of mine owns a 66
Lemans and a 67 GTO and after he has looked at my 2 '64 trays, he
has remarked that its the same tray..

( thats probably why that tray has been available to B body guys
for some time.- prob also the same for 64 hood hinges and gas tank
straps- same as the A bods)

Agree 100% that the 64 full size tray is exactly the same as the GTO tray.

I was looking for a battery tray for years for my 66 Bonneville. A friend of mine kept telling me to pull it out and I can duplicate one for you (I said to myself shire) . We I needed a new battery so out came the tray. Gave it to him 2 days later he stopped by and gave me my new tray. Wow perfect! I was dam lucky. He did a great job.

I would hit him up to see if he would make a few more.
But he's having a bout with prostrate cancer right now so everything is put on the back burner.
I really don't want to ask at this time.
