The Parts Place
I bought a rear tinted glass for the 65 back in March '16. Installed it about a month ago.
Pulled the car outside today and saw the streaks IN the glass. WTH ?

To me all glass new or repop looks like that if you are wearing good sunglasses.

I usually get my glass through Auto City Classic. I've not seen that problem with glass they have supplied to me.

Especially if you're wearing Polarized sunglasses. It even looks worse if you're wearing them looking at the rear window using the inside mirror.

My two '64's have Auto City Classic in the rear window. Both look blotchy in the sunlight.
I've seen this on many other cars, not just classic cars. It's not much of an issue with me.

I had a Pilkington that i bought back 1n 1998 for my 66.... it was streaked up like that too. Streaks in the new one or scratches in the old. Take your pick.

My 65 glass looks just like that also.

Many will tell you the original glass had blotches in it, also. Polarized or anti-glare eyeglasses make this more visible. Both my GTO rear windows have this characteristic. I've seen this on other brands of cars besides Pontiac at car shows.
I'd be interested in others chiming in on this to see if there is a source for glass that does not exhibit this blotchiness. If we find a source that sells glass free of blotches, are we going to remove ours and install new?

What you are seeing is the witness marks from the tempering process for automotive safety glass. Those spots are from air blasts that cool the glass at the proper rate to make it a tempered safety glass.
This is why automotive glass is so tough and why it ‘crumbles’ the way it does when it breaks. You want to see this. And now you know the rest of the story. ~ Paul Harvey SDD |

I typically wear glass lensed, polarized RayBans .... every car window looks like that. All kinds of strange things ... tar on road looks shiny purple, rear view mirrors have a pattern on them, high end luxury car glass has got all kinds of patterns in them when seen from the outside, even my motorcycle helmet visor has a slight rainbow effect.

Windshields are laminated glass. Sides and rears are tempered glass. Tempered glass looks like that when viewed thru polarized sunglasses.
