This may be what you are thinking of.

These models were on display at the Truck Engineering Validation Center when it stood at South Blvd and Woodward in Pontiac. They are currently on display in the lobby of the GM Heritage Center.

I'll try and grab some pics the next time I am over there.

That's very interesting Keith but I've never seen that.
The model I saw was of the actual Fischer Coach. I googled it and apparently it's a common subject. Lots of photos of different interpretations...

That's it (or one like it).

His coach received the highest score for quality and craftsmanship of any entry before. His version is what earned him enough fame to be provided tools to create the other truck models.

I think the original article that I saw somewhere was about a 13~14 y.o. boy and it was in the 1930s. Actually, now that I think about it, it may have been posted here or somewhere else by one of the guy's relatives. I think they dug the model and an article about it out of an attic or something like that.
The story above is quite remarkable in it's own right though. Amazing what a determined individual can do under extreme circumstances.

1956 Packard Clipper models. These appear to be 1/8 scale.

Saw this when reading about Norwalk:

Quote:
Fisher Auto Body can trace its beginnings to the horse-drawn carriage shop in Norwalk where the Fisher's learned their trade before moving to Detroit.
The first horseless carriage built in Norwalk was a steam car produced by Ethan Sly in 1902. By 1905, forty-nine Norwalk residents owned automobiles.
The Auto-Bug Company was formed in Norwalk in 1909 and became the Norwalk Motor Car Company in 1910.
Cars were manufactured in a building at Linwood and Monroe Streets, which shipped up to six automobiles per day.
The company introduced the “Norwalk 35” model which reportedly could travel 50 miles per hour.

I just finished reading that in 1955 Packard got a world record with their new V8- 107 MPH average for 8,000 miles. The average speed of 107 included pit stops!

Those are GREAT photos!!!

Here's one of my favorites. 1968 GTO, Solar red, original 400 H.O. car, in the back of an AMC dealership circa 1981.

I don't know. It was a short note in "Roddin' at Random" in May '55 Hot Rod Magazine.
