Manual brakes to power
The master cylinder started leaking on my 68 GTO with manual drum brakes. So , I thought why not add power brakes while I'm doing this. Installed new booster and master cylinder. Bench bled master twice. Bled all wheels twice. Now, I have brakes but pedal goes almost to floor. I'm thinking that the rod that goes thru firewall to booster may be wrong length now. Also brake pedal is about halfway up from floor as it was before.I need help. Any suggestions appreciated.

Your pedal should have another hole in it, lower, for power brakes. Using this hole will reduce pedal travel.
Another reason for excessive travel can be too much gap between the p'rod that sticks out of the booster & the piston in the m/cl. This prod is adjustable on many cars to minimise travel. Any extra clearance here shows up as about 3 times as great at the pedal rubber. |

Thanks, Geoff. When I was under dash I didn't notice the other hole in the brake pedal. Moved the rod to that hole and everthing fine now.

I have thought about doing this same swap. Did you have to do anything to brake lines other than lengthen them out to reach? Metering valve, combination valve etc. Where did you order your MC and power booster?
