Who ported the heads? I'm very interested to see what it does, more so in the car w manifolds, as in time slips. Jack knows what he is doing, he built my 400 & I have no complaints. You ever go to any of the Royal GTO events out there?

The heads were ported by Butler. I have yet to go to one for of the Royal GTO events or any others for that matter as I've been out of commission for so long.

No doubt. I was only comparing cams with the same .050" as the OP is going to use here. I'm sure with larger cams and 260cfm head flow 545hp wouldn't be difficult.
The limiting factor here will be the camshaft. 230 @ .050" in a HR profile isn't a very big cam for a 455 build with 10 to 10.5 to 1 compression. We use 230 @ .050" HR cams in 455 HO and SD builds with 8.5 to 8.8 to 1 compression and they idle nearly smooth and make great power......Cliff

Dyno day is Saturday. FWIW, sometime ago when I was first contemplating an upgrade to the ported e-heads Dave (SD) estimated 525-530 hp.

Good plan as it gives you room to grow. We already know the larger OF cam is a solid 550hp with 295cfm heads and 10 to 10.5 to 1 compression.
I'm hoping the smaller SP cam will have enough seat timing to support the ported heads, and why I estimated that it would fall between the 514hp we got with a 230/242/112 cam/unported heads and the 552hp we saw with 295cfm and the OF grind. I also read someplace that the SP is offered in several versions, with XE and Magnum lobes. Not sure which one you are using but it will effect the results. I didn't see rocker arm ratio mentioned either?......Cliff

The Stump Puller with magnum lobes has .3770" lobe lift or .565" lift w/1.5
The 'revised' version with XE lobes is .3890" lobe lift or .583" lift w/1.5 On the intake side the revised version has 5 degrees less seat timing. His signature states .565" lift. .

From what was passed on to me the 'regular' SP uses lobes 3111B & 3122B
286/289 rated at .006" tappet lift 230/236 at .050" .3770" / .3800" 112 LS From copy of a cam card on hand the 'revised' version used lobes 3194/3196 281/287 rated at .006" tappet lift 230/236 at .050 .3890" / .3910" 112 LS / 107 ICL ( Note: I've seen reports the original has both 5 degrees or 4 degrees advance ground in. And note the revised version does not use a "B" suffix code that can alter the rated duration slightly) .

Hey Will did Jack mention the Howard cam he has been using lately? I think it could wake that combo up..... Even with 9:1(daily driver with a/c) or so compression my 67 400 with stroker went north of 530HP with 600plus TQ.....first pull with the same 850cfm carb straight out of the box..at the Dyno...... it will melt the tires...... Even though I Don't have full throttle......

Also worth mentioning the 'revised' SP has 5 degrees additional degrees of duration at 0.200" valve lift. Couple that with the higher valve lift and it will have more area under the curve.

Interested in seeing what your engine does. I went with as cast KRE D's on my 462, but my cam is slightly larger. 232/238 .543/.538 using XFI lobes.
I'm going to guess you're going to be in the 530-540 range and around 580 ft lbs.

The SP cam should be no slouch and very streetable, which is another reason I kept it. Not saying the Howard cam isn't, or the OF for that matter but the rest of the combo may compliment the SP better...

"Cliff - The engine has HS 1.5 rockers and the SP cam has these specs:
Magnum Lobes 3111B & 3122B .3770" / .3800" 286/289 rated at .006" tappet lift 230/236 duration .050" .565/.570 lift 112 LS Degreed at 107.5 ICL" Good news as it will make more power than the 281/287 @ .006" version. W/O high ratio rockers and ICL at 107.5 it will make less peak HP than my first estimate, but still easily over 500hp and 575tq.....Cliff

Why would SD change the lobes to 281/287 if it didn't make more power? |
