Default ICEngineWorks exhaust header modelling blocks

Last week, I went to pay a visit to the shop where the car will be going in Feb. Guy has a real nice setup. A separate sound proofed rear wheel dyno room. And huge steel building as the work place. Has 3 twin turbo projects going. 1 leaves in Jan making a spot for me. Turbo setups are what he does. Does all his hot side work in heavy wall (.065") 304 stainless. His exhaust work borders on art. Its that good. Perfectly centered in crowded engine bays, really close tube lengths, etc. All cerakoted in the color of your choice.

So I asked how he gets results like this, assuming it was time and material, so big $$$. He showed me what he uses. Here is it;

I have never even heard of this tool. It clearly works. He demonstrated making a short length on a sand rail (a 4th twin turbo project tucked in a corner) and then taking it to the bandsaw and transferring the plastic model onto a piece of 304. Cut angles, twists and all done in MINUTES! And a perfect piece of tubing tacked together for a quick fit check.

Just found it interesting.

We had (retired) CAD guys who do the same type of modeling on a computer as they could also add vehicle chassis and sheet metal to the exercise.

For a racer type guy the pieces and concept is EXCEPTIONAL for the money.

Nice find Tom!

My mate uses corrugated hoses off old vacuum cleaners to give him an idea of how all the tubes fit together.

Stainless Works has had them for years.

They send you all of the blocks, you construct the headers and return them.

Then you get custom headers sent to you.

Stainless Works used to sell/send you some semi-flexible plastic tubing of the right diameter that you bent, punctured, and filled with urethane foam. Then, you sent them back and they scanned the bends. From the scans they mandrel bent tubing to return. We made a set of Try-Y headers using them and it was a slick way to do it. Rocky still has the heades on his Firebird.

Very Cool Picture Tom.

A friend and I were talking about you about two weeks ago. Were your ears burning?
We were discussing the VOE mufflers that you did for him and for me years ago.
Thanks again for that deal. Happy 2017.
