Does anyone have the rubber bushings that go in the bracket for the throttle linkage rod? The ones in this photo are shot. 66 catalina, 389 with 2 bbl

are they the same as a 4bbl application? I have a '66 GP parts car that should h ave the entire throttle linkage if I'm remembering right.

Here's what you should have to make it complete. The rubber bushings are not the same. The one that sets in the intake bracket is wider with a bevel pointing inward as shown. You also need two felt spacers to prevent lateral motion.

Nice photo, MPKind. The bushing inside the bracket mounted to intake is ok, just need the one for the firewall bracket. I have the felt spacers, but there is still a lot of lateral movement. Maybe two inches of play between the two brackets.

I re-used the felt spacers. Clean them in solvent and they'll swell up again to tighten the outer bracket. I'm not seeing a rubber bushing on the intake side in your first pic. If you assemble as I show it in my pic, it should work as designed. Remember the inside part floats. Not sure how it can move laterally 2 inches unless it's missing parts. Can you explain?

MPKind, I must have the wrong bushing on the manifold bracket. It has no bevel, and is now tearing as well. Here is a photo of how it looks now. I need both bushings at this point. I think they get torn up if both not installed. Also, the whole (floating) linkage part travels laterally when the rod is askew, and the pedal gets very stiff because it is off center with the leverage points on the linkage. Does that make sense?

I see the problem. The long part of the countershaft goes through the intake bushing. Flip it around and it'll operate properly.

Better. Anyway. Still need some decent rubber bushings. They don't make them by they're common on boneyard cars.

Assemble with the felts on the short end just like the pic I provided. The firewall end should be fairly tight and the intake side should float.

I compared your first pic with the last pic. Had to flip it so I could compare. It looks like the bracket weld is broke and it's sliding on the shaft to the inside. Should only have about an inch of the shaft exposed on one end (see my pic). Take it out and weld it up, get some good bushings, clean the felts, and you'll be good. If you need a measurement, I can help since I have an extra countershaft somewhere in my collection of parts. Here's another pic of one in place. Notice the felts are tight on the rubber, if the weld is broken, it won't work.

Wow, you're so right about the weld. That's exactly why it's been slipping around. Thanks so much for that. Now I just need to find the rubber bushings!
