My 64 GP does not have that hole..

what it looks like (and my guess) is that that fender
was originally on a Cat or Bonnie.. if you look at the
grilles of those 2 cars.. the grille ends bend forward
into that general area .. and would theoretically be
mounted into the fender near that spot..

My '66 has a similar hole in the front fender where the end
of the grille bar connects to the fender..

I havent taken off the front end sheet metal on my Bonnie
so i cant say for sure.. but that would be my guess..

Maybe someone else can clarify further..

John

Thanks.. I tried to find a good pic of my Bonneville grille but
I didnt have any that showed it close up and clearly.

Im pretty sure Im correct but the more I look at the GP fender
and the Bonnie fender that 8lug posted.. it's hard to tell..

In trying to compare the distances I would have thought the hole
on the GP fender would be a little further towards the rear..

Tricks of perspective on the eyes I guess... I cant come up with what else
that hole could be for.. I cant think of anything else that would
mount there..

John

Looking at the hole it appears too large for a cat/bonne grille mounting point, not to mention I don't think that would be covered anyway. It looks to be too far forward. My cat doesn't have the grilles in it right now and I don't have that hole.

If the hole is somehow related to the grille attachment then there should be an equivalent hole on the right (passenger) side of the vehicle. Is there a hole on the right side? Unless I've missed it I didn't see any mention of a right side hole in any of the comments. I like the theory of the hole being the location for an aftermarket alarm key. How about where a plug-in connection for an aftermarket block heater is made?

No bulge around the hole....if you look carefully...it's a reflection from the directional lamp.

I have a Buddy that is a paint rep for DuPont and another that works for Nexa...they both have the color cameras with them. That camera shot will get me close....I will make some spray out cars and adjust accordingly......Been doing paint and bodywork for the last 40 years....I'll get a blendable match ! Iam not scared...LOL

That thar's a speed hole! It blows cool air down towards the brakes to help you stop at high speeds!
