Backspacing help needed 69 bird front disc.
Replacing the skinnys on the front of my 69 firebird. It had what I thought were 5 inch wide 15 inch dia. weld drag lites but were actually 4 inch wide. I purchased 215 70 15 tires to put on but they wont fit on the rim properly due to it being to narrow. The rims have a 1&7/8 backspacing now on a 4 inch wide rim. I need to move to a 6 inch wide rim but the smallest backspacing they offer is 2&1/2 inch. they also offer a 3.5 and 4.5 backspace. Any idea if the 3.5 will clear the brake caliper . It has the wildwood D52 dual piston caliper with a 11 inch rotor. the car is at the factory height for what it is worth . Any help would be appreciated .

I run welds 15x3.5 with 205-70-15, also billet specialties 15x4 with same tire size. I run 40 lbs air in them. They fit very tight.

I run 15x3.5 Centerlines and I just (like last week) bought another set of 165 sr15. Didn't want to but never thought 205 70 15 would fit.

The 215 tire will not fit on the 4 inch wide rim and seat properly. They recommend a 5.5 to 7 inch wide rim for that tire. I want to stick with the weld draglites because that is what is on the rear. My main concern was will the 15 x 6 weld with 3.5 backspacing clear the stock style brake caliper. That was the narrowest Mickey Thompson RWL tire I could get , which is also the brand of tire on the rear in a 275/60/15 .
