Default Auto. Floor Shifter Cable – Repro. For TH 350

For the LeMans, I purchased one of the lower priced reproduction units. I thought something was strange about it, since it has a weak “spring-loaded” effect when you push the cable back & forth. The other thing that was different was that the grommet was completely different than original. The length was perfect however, so I installed it anyway.

It works very nice in one direction – from Park to Low, but going the other way, after around Neutral position it does not have enough “strength” to push everything back into Park. It just collapses into mush. I think this might have something to do with that spring loading effect it has. I installed it as per Shop Manual procedure. My original one works, but it’s a little sticky and I thought a new one would be prudent.

Questions:
Have any of you guys run into this before?
Is this a common problem with reproduction shifter cables, or did I get the wrong type?

Just wanted to check before I call Ames.
Thanks!
