63 convertible $?
I looked over a 63 Lemans convertible that a family is considering selling. I ran my hands around the edges of the car and can't find any signs of rust or past rust repairs. No obvious wreck damage that I found, either. I could find only two places where body filler work was apparent, and it was very minor. To my eye, it is a really nicer driver. 4 speed, power top, tach are goodies that caught my eye. Starts and runs fine and smooth, no smoke seen.
I know very little about this generation of cars and what is considered rare and desirable among them. Add to that I have a hard time putting a value to it. With the little bit that I'm providing here and what the pictures show, what opinions do you have of the car and dollar value. Thanks for your thoughts. |

The top is practically new. Odometer is showing less than 70K, but who knows!

I would say at least 12K,more if it does not need paint or engine rebuild. Not crazy about the color but it looks like a killer car.Tom

Thanks Tom. I don't care for the color myself, but it's code H Kimberly Blue. Samples I looked at were close to this.
Come to think of it, about 25 years ago I was looking at a nice '63 Electra convertible and the same color turned me off on it. |

I wouldn't consider this car for near that price knowing Tom's A-2 paint / 209 TRIM coded car is available for mid-teens.

That looks like a very nice original Lemans. I would like it to be worth $30K But that isn't happening.
I would say with the 4 cyl about $15 max. I don't care for the color either... |

I don't know where the $12K comes from, I don't see that value in this car. The front fender trim doesn't line up with the door trim so that leads me to believe there was some shady body work. The decklid doesn't line up either. Looks like the valve cover has been leaking for years and the amount of oil everywhere makes me think the mechanical was neglected for years. Looks like the grease fittings haven't seen a grease gun either. I think once you start digging into this car you will find more problems.
It does have some nice options for a 4 cylinder car but I am at $8K max, especially in that color. |

Was the "body filler work" from dents or rust? Maybe the door trim misfit was a result of repair of "dent" damage to the door (not rust)?
Is it a 4bbl engine? If so, that car with the 4-spd is a real fun driver. If nothing else, the engine appears to need a front seal (but fortunately, all of that oil leakage has probably protected the underneath of the car). I note the "excellent condition of the steering wheel (perhaps indicative of the overall condition of the car). I would pay particular attention to the "rust" condition of the trunk sheetmetal, especially the drop-down side pocket areas. The "apparent trunk lid misfit needs looked into also. Assuming the drivetrain is only a 70k-miles condition, I would schedule a front-end suspension rebuild (bushings, tie rod ends, ball joints, shocks, etc.) I would scrap the wire caps and go with some mag-wheels. All-in-all, the car looks like a good car. As to price, I go with the "a willing buyer and a willing seller" pricing theory. |
