Trunk rod tension adjusting ??
What is the easiest and best safe way to adjust the trunk rod so my trunk will stay open ? It does have spoiler and it is a 72 Bird and my rod is in the top position. Does rod need to be in the middle or bottom position ?
Thanks !!

Top position should be max tension (with spoiler). Maybe the rods are done.

You might find this to be some interesting reading also...first thing to check is if you have the larger torque rod on the left top side that was used with rear spoilers. The video above shows that also.

I took a reading of the two torque rods on my 1971 Trans Am, so originally a spoilered car, using a digital caliper set on a fractional scale and got
17/64" - for the thicker torque rod on the upper left. 15/64" - for the thinner torque rod on the upper right. Ymmv .
