Rear Gear with 32 inch Tires
What Rear End Gears are you people running with 32 inch Tall Slicks? I'm leaning toward 4:11.This is for the Quarter Mile not Eighth. This is for a Back-Halved 72 Ventura with a Stroker 400 (455) and a Trans-Brake Powerglide.

i currently have 3.89s and i am crossing the line pretty low, ie 6600 or so. i am going to a 14x32ish slick which should help. I currently have MT 15x33s. they have about 2 weekends left in them, and then i think i too am going to install 4.11s. combinations will vary, mine is a about 830hp 535.

I originally had 3.89 gears naturally aspirated, but I switched to 3.50 gears when I supercharged to keep trap RPM under 8,000 with the higher speeds.
I run 32 X 14 slicks and a Powerglide. By my calculations, I have a lot of torque converter slippage at the big end (very loose converter). Jim

I'm convinced the weight of the car also determines what RPM it crosses at....2920lbs 32-14.5 825hp 4.11 crossed at. 6900rpm.....changed to a 4.30 and it crossed at 7200RPM
Now I'm at 2800lbs & 1000+hp 4.30 gear and a 32-14.5 tire and I'm hoping to cross at 7400ish might change to a 33 tall tire

I would run a 4.33 with that size tire. I guess it depends on the mph/rpm you are wanting to run. I go through the traps at 7000 with a 31" (96" rollout) slick with a 4.11 and a glide at 143 mph.

I have 33x16 Hosiers on my 63 Tempest in Super Street with 4:88s. I'll know after this weekend what I cross at. I'm thinking 7400 at 143.

Thanks for all the input, I think my original idea is in the ballpark as I don't want to scream it too high (not a small block chevy) the car has 4.86 in it now but that is too much gear for my engine I'm thinking.

wts69bird, that sounds a little high on rpm. have you calculated your converter slippage? Mine is comparable in weight and gear, mine goes through at 6700, about the same mph.
