I used Comp Cams 1994-1998.
Thier Pontiac V8 Flat Tappet Solid Race Camshaft profiles.
I had very good results.
CC Has a terrible rap today in the Chevy Corvette world.

I switched to Isky - Iskenderien Cams after 1998.
I Love Them.
I have talked to Ron Iskenderien many times on the phone.
He don't use China Crap.
I recall he said he buys his cam cores from a Small Foundry in Ohio.
Made in the USA.
Ron Grinds them.
Finishes them.
He Ground my Race 455 Cam last year.
Made it for me from scratch .

My 2 cents but I wouldn't use a reground welded up camshaft in a High Speed Pontiac V8.

Lots of good facts in here but I have a question. Do the detergents play a role here in washing off whatever ZDDP is added?

If your Jeep has the 4.0L inline 6 cyl, that motor is virtually bullet proof.

Eagles ... thanks for the info.
I remember when Isky cams were very popular.

I just emailed them to ask where they get their cores.

Here is the response from Isky Cams.

"Hi John;

Proudly, ALL cam cores supplied by Isky are 100% american made....

richard thomas/isky cams"

Sounds like we now know a source for US made cam cores, so the problem of cheap chinese cores need no longer be a problem.

Anyone have any comments on which Isky cam might be close to an 068?

Checking their catalog it appears they don't make any cams suitable for 1.65:1 rockers, no RA cams.

You may be dissapointed.
Isky does not sell Pontiac V8 Reproduction camshafts.
They never have.
Ditto for SBC & BBC.

They don't manufacturer much for Pontiac anymore.
But Isky can and will.

The 270 Mega & 270HL are similar to the old 068.
But Isky are single pattern camshaft profiles most.

I am into Race Engine Math.
We discuss on an other Forum I am on.
All the Engineering to go along with.

I have noticed Max here is general discussion overall which I.like.
Get everyones input.

All Isky camshafts are compatible with 1.65 Rockers.
You must check PTVOC
PISTON TO VALVE OPEN CLEARANCES.

If you want a Dual Pattern camshaft Then look to Crower Cams.
I have one of Crowers Full Drag Race cam profiles bought and entire Install kit bought and put away .
Super Radical. No street use or at least not practical .

I have found Single pattern cams work nice for me.

I know we are in the Supercharged & Twin Turbo era.
32 psi Low Boost.
High Boost 51-70 psi.

And 400-550 CFM Heads have become the Norm.

I like Poncho factory iron.
Isky Works for me.

My Isky cam pick, 264 Mega Hydraulic :http://iskycams.com/cart/index.php?m...oducts_id=1016

I wouldn't sweat the fact that it's a single-pattern, the intake duration @ .050" is 214 which is close to the 068 which is at 212.

That was my initial pick also ... I'd have to run 1.5 rockers with that? Remember ... I'm the guy trying to stay as close to OEM parts as possible

I assume 1.5 rockers are easier on the valve train in general?

Wonder if they could/would grind an exact copy of an 068 for a reasonable price.

Personally I'd run the factory stamped 1.5:1 rockers with it, .450" lift is plenty with stock heads on a stock build.

Save the stamped 1.65:1 rockers for another project.

Good chance they would, if they have the pattern available.

If you like Howards cams they have one close to the 068.

417591-15 CL417591-15 288 302 212 225 .408 .408 115 113 Hyd. Hyd. 1
1800-5200 Near duplicate of the Pontiac 390HP/428 cam (GM #9779068).

I have one in one of my cars and I like it. Not this cam it a little bigger but seems to be a quality item.

Ed Iskendarian, 94, was one of the flaggers at the Eagle Field Drags out here last year. Great guy, and still into the hobby. Very happy to hear that the family tradition is still in the mix, and building quality products for the little guy. Pretty cool!
