Default Flywheel bolts

While disassembling my clutch and flywheel I found contact wear marks on the heads of the ARP flywheel bolts. The clutch hub springs had been contacting them. Not bad, but enough to leave marks. I was using a Center Force II set up and new SFI flywheel. I remember the last set up I ran (more stock) I had the same issue, but worse. I will have the flywheel resurfaced so I know this will bring the disc closer to the bolt heads. Is there a solution to avoid the contact problem?

I had the same problem. I went to the Mr. Gasket bolt kit that has the thin heads.

I had the same problem with my CF clutch. I took my 4 inch grinder and "machined" the bolt heads thinner while installed in the car. The last time I installed a flywheel I used the Mr.Gasket bolts.

I had the same problem also with a Mcleod Clutch. I replaced them with a set of Chrysler ARP bolts. I'll have to lookup the part # and post it..

Charles, any mods needed for the ARP Chrysler bolts to fit?

(I've seen posts complaining about the ARP Pontiac flywheel bolts having clearance issues as well.)

Thumbs up

I thought I was the only one that has strange problems with about every aftermarket part I use...... Chuckie, those are the bolts I used. I got my new clutch set today and mocked things up, looks like I have a decent amount of clearance. Yeah, I had already planned in my mind to grind a bit off the head if I had too. Thanks for the support guys!

Doesn't sound like yours is as bad as the new ones that I just bought but I had to go as far as buying a replacement disc. There was no way the first one was ever going to work. Found out later it was basically a Chevy clutch kit. Had to buy a disc that was built differently. One that didn't sit down into the bolt pocket at all.

The kit I bought was listed for a 70 GTO 455. Even when I talked to the tech guy at AMS he was somewhat confused that it wouldn't work. Said they been selling them for that application for years and never heard of this issue before. PSSHH! Whatever! I assured him it was never gong to work in that configuration. I can just about guarantee they won't change the listing though. Even came with the wrong size pilot bearing.
