Jack that kind of resembles an air cleaner top I seen at the PRI show one year, I think K&N was the manufacture. They claimed better fuel economy and throttle response. They also stated an increase in air flow as well which is a contradiction of what you seen and I have witnessed. It probably does help throttle response at lower rpm, but definitely hurts upper rpm power.

K&N uses that approach on the Flow Control lids.

Just got a call from the aluminum foundry today and they said my RA5 castings I ordered about 4 months ago are in route finally. So for anyone who has been patiently waiting I should have machined heads ready for sale soon !!!! I want to say thanks to everyone who has been waiting with patience and understanding. Believe me no one wants you to have these heads more than me LOL.

Finally got an engine running with my new DCI RA5 heads. It took me shutting the shop down for 3 weeks and not answering the phone or emails, but we got er done. This is not my 480 cu. in. engine, but my 2008 Engine Masters 455 factory block with stock stroke and bore 4.21" x 4.155". This combo has 2.25" intake and 1.69" exhaust valves, 10.5-1 compression, 250 degrees duration at .050, my cast intake with a single Quick Fuel 4150 950 cfm carb. This is a true pump gas street-able combo that anyone can build. We finally fired the engine for the first time late last night 11:30 pm and fired with one pump instantly. To get it running we just set the distributor close and when we checked the timing it only had 15 degree's total. The surprising part is that it revs faster than about 80 percent of the engines we get in the shop with only 15 degree's timing (WOW). It does not like allot of timing about 20-24 degrees by feel and ear. Throttle response is wicked fast so fast that my analog tach will not keep up. My timing light is digital and with a quick blip of the throttle its at 5,000 rpm. I can't wait to get this thing in a car and drive it. I would love to engine dyno it, but I think because of my limited time schedule that we are going to put it in a car and chassis dyno it instead. I will have the engine on the start up stand this weekend at Norwalk for anyone wanting see and here it run. See everyone when we get there come by and say hello. I have T-shirts available in blue, black, and pink this year.

Here are some pic's of the engine as we assembled it. The pistons required minimal modification and I had to change the location of the valve reliefs slightly.

Cool deal Don. Glad to hear one is making some noise. Therefore I am offering a free dyno session on that engine here. We can stay all day or all night. The Pontiac'ers are hungry for good info and have a need to know. Bring her on down here; drive it, fly it, ship it or whatever just get it here.
Regretfully we cannot make norwalk this year to deliver this offer in person.
Seriously consider it. See u soon
Jim

Jim I would love to, just not enough hours in a day man!!! Thanks for the offer though. We are going to try and get it in a car before the end of summer and chassis dyno it if all the stars line up.

I did get an opportunity to see and hear the 455 DCI Ram Air V engine, that Don had brought to Norwalk. I was there talking to Ed Page and Don, seeing we are both currently building our own versions of the DCI Ram Air V headed engine. It was VERY IMPRESSIVE just how nice it idled and how quick it would rev to 5000 rpm, in no time!! I truly believe that Don's Ram Air V heads make the engine think it has (2) individual normal sized Pontiac intake ports feeding it's (1) intake valve to the cylinder bore. I truly believe it will play out that way on the road as well as the Drag Strip.

As a side note, I did officially get my T&D shaft rocker arm systems delivered to Jim Robertson on Monday last week. They are the very first of there kind, so now other DCI Ram Air V guys and gals can just call up Sheldon at T & D and get your own set. I ordered steel rockers and 1:8 ratio and valve Spring Oiling for the street/strip driving that I will do.

The Dream is becoming a REALITY!!!.

I want to take a moment and thank everyone that stopped by our spot at Norwalk this past weekend and introduce themselves. The event was huge this year and if you didn't get the opportunity to go you really need to make plans for next year. The engine we put together for the show even impressed me and that's hard to do. I know this is my creation, but until you actually get to here it run you're always a little hesitant and skeptical of even your own abilities. Arnie Beswick came over and spent a good bit of time with me discussing the improvements I made to the DCI RA5 heads and reminisced about his past experiences with the original RA 5 program. He seemed very impressed with the quality of the heads and the engines throttle response. He said the only RA5 engines he ever had that revved like this one were his blower engines. It put a big smile on his face and was the highlight of my weekend (Thanks Arnie!!!). I don't have any pic's, but I know allot of people took video and pictures so please don't hesitate to post them here if you did I would really appreciate it. I know allot of you are waiting on dyno numbers and believe me so am I. We are going to put the engine in a chassis and get some rear wheel numbers as soon as we get a chance. I know there are allot of variables that can effect the rear wheel numbers, but it's the best I can do right now. As I already stated we shut the shop down basically for the month of July to get this engine together, and now I have to get back to getting my customers taken care of so please understand. I believe Ed Page will be the first to dyno an engine with the DCI RA5 heads and I think he is getting close he's actually waiting on me right now. His engine will be a low compression around 9-1 turbo set up , but it will give us an idea of what to expect. From the response I got this weekend I think my next run of heads is going to sell fast. So if you're seriously considering purchasing a set I wouldn't wait to long once I post here that I am ready to start taking orders again. The whole process from the time I order castings, get them machined, and them back here takes quite awhile. I don't have the funds to order 50 sets at a time so that's why I cannot keep up so please understand.

Thanks Again, What A Weekend !!!!!!!

I thought everyone here might like to see the inside of my intake to see the way I made the filler or turtle as it's commonly referred to. I made the original design out of allot of bondo LOL. It made it allot easier to manipulate into what I wanted. Then we scanned it and made a program to cnc machine them out of aluminum plate. I need to tweak it a little, but overall it fits pretty good. Fuel distribution looks pretty good after looking at the plugs too.

I have tested that lid on the track with my high 12 second street car, it didn't like that lid.

One step closer just got the engine in the car and running. I done a couple of quick hits just to get the feel for the engine compared to what I have run in the past. All I can say is that this thing still thinks it's on the engine stand, even with the big 34.5x17's out back. You hit the throttle on a roll and it's at 7800 rpm before I can lift. I'm not sure what to expect for HP from this thing yet, but I think it's going to be really good for the compression and cubic inch. I recalculated the compression and it's only 10.23-1 so I honestly think that I could run 87 octane in this thing without any problem. I have been bleeding money lately (LOL) so it might be a little while before I can get to the track or a chassis dyno. I'll keep everyone posted though when I do. Keep in mind that this is a factory 455 block with stock bore 4.155" and stock stroke 4.21" with off the shelf parts nothing exotic. I am going to get some video of a couple of burn outs maybe and post those in the mean time just for a little teaser LOL.
