Interested as well. My brother did it in his 56 Chevy but to me i think I'm not gonna do power brakes but put a double line off a master cylinder and run the fronts and backs for safety.

Found this is worth while

I just purchased a complete disk brake upgrade kit from MP Brakes for my 64 Catalina to get away from the single bale master cylinder and drum brakes. Still in the process of installation, so when i get this completed I'll post how everything fit and turned out.

I'm going the hydroboost route with my '64 Cat. Went to MP Brakes website. It's odd how closely their brackets resemble Scarebird's brackets.

I installed MP front disc's on my 1964 GP about 3 years ago. Has worked out well. I had already converted to a dual drum system before installing the disc's. I used a 1967 master cylinder. Extended and connected the rear brake line directly to the master cyl.. Ran a line from the master's other port to the junction block and plugged the empty port on the junction block where the rear line used to be. Used the car that way for several years.

You will also need a power brake pedal. Check post # 12 in this thread;

Got the Brakes finished up on my car. All fitment was great. Easy install. Took forever to bleed the brakes.
Now for the bad. The wheel bearings that came with the kit are junk Chinese bearings. These are all MP Brakes offer with their kits. It cost me a rotor, spindle and new bearings.
MP Brakes was willing to replace the bad bearings but nothing else.
So I went and found some made in the USA Timken bearings to use the second time around and haven't had any issues yet.

The only one I'm aware of was board member tinindn, who used them on a 1961 Ventura before he passed away a few years ago. You can search on his name and find a few posts about them. The last I heard Roush had discontinued their conversion kit, I don't think they sold very many of them.

Default Master power brakes

b.hill,

what problems did you have and when?

I installed the MPBrakes front disc for my 64 catalina. All went well.
The step-down or up bearing they use caught my attention. What replacement did you use?

Thanks

When I upgraded my brake system I had my rear end out form under the car as well for other issues. So I had to bleed the complete system and I must have bled 2 gallons thru my system before my brake pedal felt good. Guessing I had a bubble stuck somewhere that fought me for a couple of weeks.
As far as the failure goes my passenger outer bearing just let go after 30 or so miles. No squeaking or noises of any kind it was like the bearing just came apart.
The sleeve that came with the kit for the inner bearing I had to reuse. A little heat from a torch and it fell right off.
The new bearings I used were Timken LM11949 Cone, LM11910 Cup, L68149 Cone, and L68110 Cup.
Hope this was helpful.
