Yeah, I know this is strange...but
Are any of you familiar with the German built Borgward cars? I know they have a following in certain parts of the world, but here they are generally an obscure brand. Production ended in 1963, but competed with BMW pretty strongly (in Europe) during the 50's, and were #2 behind VW in sales during their prime.
I've been approached privately by someone who has a complete, running 1960 Isabella coupe in very, very good condition to sell. The owner is a direct descendent of the founder Carl Borgward. The amount of documentation is impressive, and because of my business I was contacted to see if I would be interested. I have to admit, after learning more about these, I'm tempted. Just wondering if there are any fans or followers of these cars on here. The picture below is not the actual car, but looks the same. Last edited by 400 4spd.; 04-25-2015 at 12:42 AM. |

There is a guy around here that uses one for a daily driver. I see it all the time driving around... He's always in the slow lane on the freeway..

Yeah, I think the top speed with that 4 cylinder was 81 m.p.h.
I do have a spare 350 Pontiac that I could cram in there. BTW, I've driven from San Diego to Pismo, and I thought all the lanes were slow lanes. |

Interesting. Looks like something Wayne Corini would be knowledgeable about and consign perhaps?

There's one in the Twin Cities area that I've seen at various car shows over the years. I don't know anything about it but they seem like a nice little car. I imagine parts would be hard to find, though.

I do vaguely remember them after seeing this thread. There was a handful of them around my hometown when I was a kid. Everybody who had one seemed to be in love with them, I don't think I've seen or heard of them in close to fifty years.

Looks cool to me, and I'm a sucker for anything German.

I saw a convertible version of that car in the 80s at a shop that did a lot of work on odd-ball European cars several years back. One of my friends worked there for a few years doing light body work and assembly.
