Default Radiator tag 73 SD 4 spd.

So what would the tag code be on a 73 SD TA 4 spd? 3 core. And does anyone reproduce them?

Darrell,

The original radiator went with the car. It was a 3-row. I can't recall if the tag was still on it though.

The tag is on it but broken and I wasn't sure if it was the original or not. Got it, I will just have the tag soldered back together. No repops to be found in my search.

Guess one is never done learning but HD always had me believing that it was a 4 row and after researching my old car 3 row is correct. Even the HO is a 3 and Pontiac never utilized the 4 row in the second gens?

Not true. My SD was ordered with Heavy Duty Cooling and had a 4 core radiator.

So even though my phs says HD cooling which was standard for an SD the 3 row could be used? I am not sure what my manual car had but pretty sure my automatic had the 3 row. Now Im all confused
My current car 72 455HO has the HD Cooling package code 701 however the original radiator gone when I purchased the car???
Let me guess its one of those whatever was in stock aka inventory at the time. Nope I wont buy that for this part.

It's been my understanding that HD Cooling was an option by itself, or standard with A/C in the 2nd gen Birds. 3 core standard and 4 core as an option/with AC/with steep gears (not sure if it was madatory with 3.73 gears in '71, but probably was).

Brian, its possible your radiator wasn't the original one if it was a 3 core and was optioned with the HD Cooling? Or maybe ordered but not installed by mistake during assembly?

Cooling HD was a standard item on the SD cars and should be on your old phs. I'll have the new owners check my old cars for sh!ts and grins and let you know.
What was the tag number on your old radiator?

I'll check my PHS, but I dont recall it being listed (maybe like the M20 and Honeycombs if it was 'standard').

Here are a couple of pics of the original radiator and tag.

Cool

Ask yourself this........what does HD Cooling consist of in a non A/C car. The fan is non viscous and I'm not aware of different PNs for fans. The radiator is the only thing that can make it HD over non HD.

Both of my old June cars have the HD Radiator (4 row) option noted on their phs code 701/U01 at a $21.00 charge.
