Lower Under Dash Column Cover Panel
hello, long since my last visit...
years ago, i've bought a Lower Under Column Cover Panel (Gm part 10013085) i wonder on what firebird year model this part was installed? all info that i've found is 77 -81. i guess it could have been installed on manual trans. anyone know more about it? thanks |

I have that cover on my 1979 TATA. I also removed one from a 52K mile '78 parts car. I haven't seen one on any cars earlier than '78, but I am sure many people removed them and just tossed them instead of reinstalling. I should look at the one I took off the '78 and see if it has only one pedal slot instead of two. That car was an automatic.

It should have insulation on the back. I have always heard them referred to as a "hush panel". I believe they were part of the sound deadening/insulation package

Have had that cover w insulation backing on all of our '78 (both manual & auto) & '79 TA's w A/C & factory "custom" interior option.
One reason they are often tossed: They can be a real pain as sometimes dropping down and limiting proper pedal travel & operation. Ex: Brake pedal hanging up on insulation or ABS plastic cover edge. Although I still have them installed on our current '78 & 9s - Even with "adjustment" of the two mounting screws etc. the cover can come loose and move around... Your results may vary!" |

That panel is a pain in the arse! I couldn't remove mine and throw it in the trash fast enough. It is amusing that they could build a car that rattles like a 79 T/A, then be concerned
enough about noise to install a "hush" panel ! Hello McFly! If they wanted to install a hush panel, they should have put one on the t-tops! |

Most favored in old Barn cars, by mice from coast to coast.
