Default Exhaust Manifolds

Need some help here working on the WS . manifolds that were on the motor :

9779032 Drivers side , 9779328 Passenger side . The information I have states the drivers side is correct but the passenger side is for a 66 and should be a 9779033 part number .
ok so I've been lucky enough to have a number of these cars over the years and am a hoarder in some peoples eyes . So I have other cases to compare . I checked the manifolds on a 65 that has been in my possession for years ,one owner before me , and the manifolds on that were the same as the WS and same casting style in the script . I pulled the passenger side manifold off a 66 WT that again has been in my possession for years and it did have the 9779328 manifold on it , but the casting was different in that the script was larger and a different font and had a GM 4 in the casting . I would also note according to the list I have the 65 and 66 use the same drivers side part number . So based on the examples I have in front of me is it possible 65 and 66 used the same passenger side part . I don't see any date codes or casting codes possibly do to oxidation and age .

What I have found even with the same casting number all are not the same casting . As I understand the date codes were not used until 66 or 67.

Big difference in casting. somewhere they (pont) changed mold for casting . if you look newer manifolds have a thicker flange at the mounting ears. Take note of the ones you have.I will look for pic. in my files.

found, look at pic 3 compared to flange on marked ones 1 and 2 pics .

of course the 64 65 cars used thin ones

9779325 was the p/n for the RH exhaust manifold as an assembly that included the Heat Riser Valve. This is the only way PMD serviced the RH manifold, so this is the p/n you will see in the MPC.

The casting alone is part of the assembly of course but it was assigned its own unique p/n 9779328 and will be the p/n placed on the casting by the foundry.

The LH exhaust manifold had no additional parts so it was serviced by the casting p/n.

The different assembly vs. casting p/ns for the RH exhaust manifold p/n assignments was always the case until the troublesome Heat Riser Valve was eliminated from the RH exhaust manifolds during the '68 model year.

The 9779325 and 9779032 castings were std. log manifolds for '65 and on into '68 so they are quite common. Especially the RH since it was shared with the big Pontiac engines. For service replacement, they may have been cast long after they were last used in production. Casting variations are no surprise. For example, some 9779032 may be missing a digit or 2 from the p/n on the casting.

9779033 was the center dump big car LH manifold starting in '65 also. Whatever reference you found that one listed for a RH application is confused.

thank you to all for the information , as always good help.

Andre a few years back after I sold my last 65 or so I thought, So I let go of a bunch of NOS and replated 65 parts ( dash pod etc. ) . Then I bought two more 65s so now I'm having to buy back parts I got rid of . So until I'm finally to the point I can no longer crawl out to the garage I have to hang on to my hoard .

They're ready when the time comes . Glass beaded them today. I wish they would stay that way I've tried different things in the past with no luck any suggestions ?

Also I cleaned up a second set for my other 65 but the pin that supports the heat riser spring had rusted off . Is there a repair kit that includes the two springs and the Pin ?

Here's how well POR-15 manifold paint held up after 5 years and 30,000 miles in Southern California on my RARE '67 GTO HO manifolds. They were new at the time I painted them but I bead blasted them first and used Metal-Prep on them before brushing on the POR-15 manifold grey.

Don, get them ceramic coated. Lasts and lasts and lasts. "Bill"!
To me, the POR is not dark enough.

Bill Thanks for the suggestion but ceramic coated is not in my budget . I ordered in some por 15 and did them today . unless they change a lot in color they match the other set of bare manifolds I did . If they stay at all like the ones b-man posted pictures of it will work for me . I don't point show my cars I drive them .

Those look good, I think you'll be happy with the results long term.

I plan on doing up a set of log manifolds for my 421 HO in the near future using POR-15.

I'm happy with the way they look . I left the cross over on the intake bare and painted that area with the por then painted the blue over it not sure if it will work that way but will probably put block offs in as well that's about the only way to stop that area from burning off . carbs are done and sitting on the intake . Heads are next.
