Exclamation Petition to Extend life of Racing Restraints to 5 years

to Extend life of Racing Belts to 5 Years: (please sign)
Drag Racing Seat belts certification good for 5 years (NHRA)
Currently the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) requires new seat belts be installed every 2 years for drag racing competition. These seat belts cost an entry price of $59.99 and range up to $250. They are usually 4" wide construction and 5 point harness with heavy galvanized hardware. These seatbelts have a lot more life in them then 2 years. After 2 years, the galvanize finish isn't even dull. While you can get these recertified, the cost + shipping makes it not worth the effort. I believe these seat belts are good without compromise for at least 5 years. Consider your daily driving car has a basic 3" ribbon style seat belt that never needs changing... These massive 4" /5pt harness are barely used in comparison to daily driving and yet require changing every 2 years... this is a massive waist of money and only benefilts seat belt manfacturers.

SIGN THIS PETITION AND PASS IT ON TO YOUR RACER FRIENDS IF YOU AGREE.

RJS is just down the road from me (Hazel Park), so I usually drop them off for a "reweb" or "recert", go get breakfast and come back to pick them up. It is some reduced rate like $50 so it's not awful, but you can only do that so many times before they make you start over.

Nonetheless - crawling around in the car while it is still in the trailer to pull them out and then reinstall them is certainly a pain.

I signed this, and am hopeful but doubtful about its changing... It has been a hot button of mine for many many years.... 2 year expiration... what a joke... unfortunately I believe that NHRA will squash any efforts made to change this, and hide behind "its a safety issue, not money" response....everybody knows this is B.S. but what are the alternatives? i know a good one... also, i have zero problem spending money on my car or safety, but have a huge issue when it is a matter of principle
