Lots of pics of muscle cars in the snow. They were just cars back then, finicky in cold weather, but people drove them year round. The exceptions were the elite cars like Corvettes, Ferraris, etc. Those people usually had nice garages and second (or third) cars to drive, but the general public bought a new muscle car, and it was their only car.

That must really suck! I suppose you are going to tell me that you are going out for a cruise today to really rub it in...........

Napa, we have a 20% chance of rain this weekend. I need to try and remember how to turn the windshield wipers on.

Rhinelander is south of where I grew up in northern MN. I've been outside in -64 F air temp. You probably don't want to know what the wind chill was....

I hate it.

For those that don't or those in the northern area that might sneak in a ride during the cold season........

When is it TOO cold to get the old iron out for a ride?

For my car the low point seems to start about 30. My 6X-8's have the crossovers filled and I run my qjet chokeless so there is a bit of footwork involved at colder temps while the intake builds heat. The colder it is the longer it takes. I run a 195 thermostat and at 30 and below the temp gauge never even gets close. 30-40 degrees, run it long enough and it'll get close to 195.

So, for mine, if it's close to freezing out.....I'm staying home.

You?
Salt is caked on the roads here so the Goat will hibernate for a while. Beside, I go to considerable lengths to but the car up against the wall in the garage so nobody hits it with a shovel or a car door. Plus it accumulates a few things on it while it's covered up. So in early November, it goes away from the winter.

I would suppose in an area where there is no snow but colder temps things might be different.

I got mine out for nearly 2 hours late yesterday. As the sun was going down. The temp out was just below 40 and dropping. The temp gauge finally got up to the 180-190 range. Low 180s if I ran in 5th or a little warmer if the road called for 4th or down. It went to about 140 fairly quickly and gradually crept up from there.

If there are girls involved - it has never been too cold or too snowy to drive the '66.

Talking Ahh whats a little snow..

Up state NY early 80's before drifting became a sport;

Living up north for so long, driving my cars in the cold was never an issue.
I still drive on the weekends year round, but it's not the car as much as it's me that likes the cold less & less with age

I am right there with you. Drove my 67' Lemans year round in Colorado going to and from work. Ran a engine block heater over night with a 100 foot extension cord to my apartment haha! Not to mention using starter fluid if it was below zero with wind chill..

I drove my 66 GTO as a daily driver for 11 months back in 70 to 71. Then totaled it due to a flat tire on a sandy sharp left hand curve.

The 66 GTO I have now thinks I'm punishing it as it's sitting out in the cold under the carport.... but the car cover is on it..... while our 96 Tarus wagon sits in the garage on the hoist until the new gas tank gets here and is installed. This is the first it's seen snow since I've owned it for 7 and a half years.

Thread is in the lobby on this.... http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...52#post5335952

I drove my 65 GTO back and forth to college in the early 1980's, and yes, in the snow. The choke on the tri-power worked, but it was a pain sometimes as the car had no posi and non-winter compliant G70x14's.

Back in 1981, my brother had his 68 GTO with a built 455, and in the winter, he had it parked in my parents garage. He had Rally II's all around, with M&H street slicks (28" tall) in back. One day, after a freezing storm, he arrived home to see his GTO was gone. There was a note from my mom saying her 1977 Delta 88 wouldn't start, and it was subsequently blocking in her new 1982 Olds 98 in the garage, so she took my brothers GTO to go to the grocery store. My brother immediately took off to go find her, knowing she would be in our small downtown area.

As he approached the downtown area, there's a hill (downhill) that leads into the main intersection of the town. He saw his beloved 68 GTO coming the other way, but it was stopped on the hill. There were several cars behind it, along with a police car. My brother pulled over and realized what was going on. His beautiful GTO, Solar Red, hideaway headlights, red interior, was stuck on the little hill, its huge M&H street slicks spinning uselessly on a a slick, icy road. My mom and brother exchanged cars, and he managed (with the help of the police officer) to sort of slide the car over to the side of the street to allow cars to pass. The police officer said that he needed better rear tires, the ones on his GTO were almost bald.

Yeah Mike, I remember the days back in the early 70s of having to use snowtires up North in NY. But back then they were just the bias type. Studded snowtires were available but really expensive. We didn't make much of a paycheck back then to afford the good stuff. LOL

i drive my 69 lemans everyday, i don't connect the choke, it hurts to hear the high idle when its cold. so @ 13deg this morning i rolled out of the garage slowly letting the blood circulate. I'll drive on the shoulder for a little letting the rest of the world pass. but I'm happy.

Going to have to bookmark this blog. Will help me find a place where i can drive my cars
more than 5-6 months a year and move there when i retire. This past week in N.Y. we got as cold as -6 and today it reached +12. Not counting wind chill. Plenty of members here would consider that a heat wave.
