Master Cylinder question
I am replacing the single MC on my 65 Cat. I am putting in a corvette style MC. Had manual brakes and will retain manual brakes. Purchased a MC with 1" bore.
Question on this is how is the push rod retained in the back of the MC now? On the old one, there was a retaining ring and a washer that made sure it stays put. On the new MC, I am having a hard time figuring how to make sure it stays place. Thoughts? I can get pics if you are not able to follow.

A manual brake MC should have a deep hole. if it had a shallow one, it is for power brake....dangerous to use for manual brake applications.

So the manual MC and rod that came off of my car are the stock units. It had a shallow hole and used a retainer to hold it in place. The new one can be either. The problem is that I have no way to hold the rod to the MC with the shallow hole.
I'll get pics of my old setup, but here is an upload with a similar new setup.

guessing the answer is that I need to make a longer rod and use the deep setup. Spring will keep it in place and the deep hole will make sure it stays in place.

Yes, because if you use the shallow hole, the rod will fall out and......No brakes. I have seen the shallow how/retaining clip set-up, but is not as popular as the deep hole.

I have in my possesion a bracket with a corresponding brake rod; the bracket is hat shaped and the rod has an embossment on it to keep from falling through.
I purchased it through one of the catalogs. If I can find it, or a picture I'll post it up to see if it would work for you. K

Any reason why this would not work? In the first pic, you can see the original setup. It had a spring retainer that kept the washer in place on the old MC. I simply took a longer grade 8 bolt and ground it down. The brass looking plug was included with the new MC so you could have the hole shallow or deep.
Should work right? Thoughts?
