We were still over at the py tent. We'll all be going at it tonight. There is this partially bald headed dude across from us that has this really cool palm tree we might be borrowing around 2 or 3 in the morning. They have christmas tree here at the track and we're thinking they need a palm tree next to it.....

But everything (so far) has worked out perfectly, just the way I wanted. That includes new 535, new trans, new reared (Dana), all the front suspension mods, complete new floor, the mini tubbing, new frame ties (DSE that go thru the floor so you don't really see them from the outside), the new cage with extra bars for future expansion if necessary, complete new trunk, sliders, bodywork, paint, interior....etc etc. Its a totally different car now. Fired it Saturday and now finishing up trans so I can get a driveshaft ordered. Once thats done I can set the pinion angle and final weld the perches. Then align it and hope for the best. So far so good.
You have me thinking about my subframe.

How many parts/ components were upgraded to make this new front subframe. I know you put a lot of labor hours into this, in addition to the parts. Do you still use the OEM steering column?

I wonder if anyone out there has a modified subframe for sale? That way I could keep my original parts and bolt in the lightweight racing subframe.

Still have OEM column and it all looks pretty much original on the inside. Original wheel, dash, dashpad etc. I even ran the front A -pillar bars down thru the dash to keep them out of the way as well as the dash bar is also fitted behind the dash so you can't see it either. The racks steering shaft couples to the OEM after you modify it. No big deal at all. For the subframe itself, the Smith Racecraft rack package requires you to cut the crossover on the subframe between the core support and main crossover then install their replacement piece that the rack bolts to. (The TRZ kit bolts directly to the crossmember and in my opinion, isn't as nice and clean of a job as the Smith Racecraft deal.) It bolts on where the front lower A-arm bolts go thru. You can either leave it bolted or weld it up. I welded mine. I also fabbed up my front and midplates using the block and trans case in their OEM location. After that was all done and the rack support welded in, I Cut the main center subframe support out and welded plates on either side and reconnected it with a scrap piece of 1 5/8" to give the support back to the frame but to also give me room for almost kind of custom header if so needed down the road and also room for a blanket when I install one of them. With all the stock motor mount brackets and stuff removed and using the plates, there is all kind of room down below, at least a bunch more than before. I overkilled everything at the time when I had the car apart but in hindsight, I'm glad I did. If you want some picts, let me know and I'll post some or email them to you. and if you want to just call me about it, PM me.
I am extremely happy on how everything with the "re-build" of my car went. EVERYTHING was new on the thing including the brake lines and it's ran beautiful to this point with no hiccups or issues.

I had $1700 in the rack kit and upper and lower A-arms, all from Smith Racecraft, $130(?? can't remember exactly) in both front and rear midplates from allpontiac.com, $200 in a complete use Aerospace Components lightweight disk brake set-up ($500 new), and $400 in a barely uses DA coilovers and spring set-up ($700 new). An extra $100 in braided brake lines for the calipers, $25 in the rest of the steel lines, $10 in fittings, and $22 in a chrysler aluminum master cylinder. That pretty much covers everything on the subframe for a little over $2500.
