Default Tire size suggestions for 14" RII's

I want to get my 72 Lemans rolling soon. Part of that will be putting wheels and tires on it to get rid of the horrible crap on it now (80's style Centerlines?). I've decided to use a set of 14" Rally II's I refinished for my 67 FB, but never used. Incidentally, I bought them from a guy that had them on a 72 Lemans Sport.

Anyways, any rubber suggestions, size wise? I'd prefer 15" Rally's, but I have the 14's ready to go. I can't remember if they are 14x6 or 14x7, tho. Probably the former.

Thx!

The only size 14" that's still commonly available that looks right on an A-body is the 225/70/14. It is roughly the same size and height of a G70-14.

Thanks. Yeah, started checking on those, and the selection is so limited. Wow. I started checking CL for some 15" Cragars since I can't seem to find 15" RII's in the 5th largest metropolitan area in the U.S.

Direct link to 'em at Tire Rack-
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

Sears has a couple of other tires in that size that are cheaper- including the Cooper Cobra and Guardsmans if your budget is really tight.

I just got a 225/70 14 BFGoodrich Radial T/A for a friend with a '68 442 yesterday. Both of my local distributors had them in stock.

I'm partial to the 245/60/14's myself.

Thanks for all of the input and suggestions. I found a set of chrome 5 spokes that I will use. 15x7's. It will put bigger "feet" on the Lee-mans, and expand my tire options.

Funny, but these wheels remind me of a chrome version of a Rally II. Not Cragars, but similar. Hmmm... Masking kit with some charcoal paint? Add some PMD center caps? Gears in head are turning...

Maybe not totally do a RII knockoff, but I am thinking maybe I could do some charcoal on the hub inset and keep the spokes all chromey. Price was right, and came with new Cragar SS center caps.

Birthday present!

From the looks of it those are old Appliance wheels from the 80's. Those weren't as popular as Cragars and you could use the stock chrome acorn lugnuts on them instead of the insert type lugnuts that were required with Cragars and Keystones etc.. Good find on those and should look good on the LeMans. And 15 inch tire selection is a little better.

If you are looking for something special like red lines, RWL, narrow or wide whites, try Diamondback Tires www.dbtires.com they will put what ever you want on a set of modern radials. I got a set of Michelin X in a gold line tire for my 66 Vette.

Did some checking, and I believe you are correct!

They have "1 18 83" stamped on the part that the tire covers, and made in USA. The also have some SFI spec stickers. Chrome is remarkably good for '83. They have a 4 1/2" spacing from the hub surface to the outer rim edge. I think they will be a good fit. Now I need to decide size for these rims. Probably a 235 60-15, or maybe a 215 up front and a 255 out back. Hmmm...

The made in USA thing was kinda weird, as I was reading that production sometime in the 80's had shifted to Japan. I like 'em.

Thanks!

I am a fan of the black walls out. Back in the day I liked the RWL's, but now I think it's a little too busy. I like the popping contrast of chrome vs. black wall.

If you like the big rear small front tire look I think a pair of 255-70's and 205-75's would be a cool look especially for those wheels. But this is just my personal opinion.
