Don't use the gasket and you will have an oil leak. it happened to me by accident.

It's worth a solid two tenths in the eighth.

if it's 2 tenths in the 1/8, then maybe a 1/2 in the 1/4?
Of course depending on gear ratio and tire size and if the ashtray is full?

As stated,,you will have an oil leak. Dist. gets a good ground through the clamp & bolt.

I agree with the potential oil leak and no cause for concern about ground issues.
If you don't have one already available from a rebuild kit, the appropriate FelPro number is 11497. Your local parts store can usually have one in a day or two for a couple of bucks. |

The rear cam bearing is not too far away from the dist. hole so you could get a leak without a gasket.

You dont want to jam the oil pump shaft down on the pump either.

And remember - if you can get an oil leak you will also have a water leak if you wash the engine.

And you probably followed the advise to drill the hole in the right rear gallery plug so there will be oil going everywhere. No gasket will leak without a drilled plug, but really leak with the additional oil sprayed around.

There is actually 3 reason to keep the gasket under the dist. 1 is it controls the oil from leaking. 2 It keeps the dist. from seizing up in the dist. hole so you'll be able to trun it when you need to. 3 & last is it will keep the dist. frrom welding itself trough bymetal deteroition . The alum. will break down & will almost weld itself to the block around the dist. hole.
