Thank Aaron. Yes there is a lot to consider for sure. I just looked at 2 all out time slips, 1 @ 300ft and 1 @ 6300ft. I ran 3 MPH faster in the back @ 6300ft Sound like Mike is on to something with fuel. But I do still feel like it is lazy the first 40ft.

Your current mph of 151 and et of 8.8 seem well optimized. If it were me I would call Hughes (or your converter company) and run it by them as there may be more in a converter swap than a gear change. I'm always hestitant to turn more RPM's in the lights as its just more wear/tear on everything for small gains.

Have you made a pass with a vacuum gauge hooked up to see what it reads at full throttle/rpm?

Easy way to check if carb is too small or big.

I know with my rig drivers ability to hit the shift point consistently can have a big impact on mph too lol

No vacuum gauge off carb only for vacuum pump.

Variability of fuel? You mentioned E85... unless you're buying race spec or brewing your own percentage the pump % swing will push you rich/lean just like the DA and altitude variations.

I buy it from 1 station only here in town, and they blend it them selves. The owner is a very environmental freak and has very sophisticated machinery. Plus I test it my self to make sure.

Thank you all for the opinions & comments I appreciate all of them, keep them coming please. I am only answering them with what I have and am doing. Hope I don't come off wrong.

Well the first thing I an going to do is lower my carb down 1"

My throttle stop is 2" I am going to take it off and put my 1" super sucker spacer on.

I run a air pan but my carb is only 1 1/2 to 2" away from my hood.

Just got off the phone with him, super nice guy. He says my pump is to small and wants me to get info on the reg. as far as all the lines go I am good. He want to see how your car runs with the new pump and me get the reg info first then we'll see where to go from there. Thanks!

Let us know what you come up with. I'm running the bigger Product Engineering pump with a Magnafuel 2 port regulator. My hunch is the AFB style carbs on mine are the restriction.

Will do. John is a really cool guy. Find out what the needle & seat size on your Magnafuel reg (if they will tell you..lol) and call him, he'll tell you if it is a restriction or not. The guy is sharp!
