Default Dual Quad air cleaners

Hi Guys,

I've got those small corvette style SD air cleaners on my dual quad setup and am wondering how one goes about cleaning them. That is IF one cleans them. If not, do you just toss them and buy another set? Looking inside, they have a mesh design with some sort of fabric like material that catches smaller stuff. If they're cleanable, do you toss em in a bucket of solvent or something? They've been on the car a while and I'm betting I may have a happier car with clean ones.

Thanks!

Kevin

I asked the question to the guy selling them on Ebay one time when I was looking to buy a set. I can't remember, but I believe he said to use a solvent wash like you suggested. Maybe reach out to him again and see if he can give you a confirmed answer.

Perhaps some of the owners of the early dual-quad 283 Corvettes would know, they're much more common on those cars than on SD 421 Pontiacs.

You'd think that there would be a procedure for cleaning them from GM in a service bulletin or something like that.

The chassis manual lists a procedure for cleaning the HD filter that is oiled, and it is as stated above, bathe in solvent until clean, dry and re-install. No way people were just tossing them back then. I bet they stuck them in the parts washer in the shop.

I would think a KN cleaning kit would work.

Hey thanks all. I figured there must be something to cleaning them. Just wasn't certain.
Ok... Nice solvent cleaning and oiling it is.
Hobbygto65... Sounds like a good idea. Will check into that.

Don't think you oil them. I would check with some Corvette experts at NCRS. It is probably in the '56/'57 Corvette chassis book but I don't own one.

You might post in Lobby or Street too. Somebody on this board knows.

They're probably meant to be run dry, could be a horse hair type of element.

Oiling them would likely be a mistake.
