Early 70 spoilers had a wider mount than the next two versions, and were also very lightweight. This presented issues with the trunk lid flexing and causing dents where they where the pedestals mounted to the lid. The second design was lightweight and narrow mount (bolted through two layers of decklid sheet metal), which fixed the deck lid issues but still presented problems with the spoiler breaking. The third design, which carried into 1971, is the one we see alot of, narrow mount and heavyweight. Fixed the decklid issues and the spoiler breaking (possibly sitting on them, or using the spoiler to close the decklid) The punched holes in the early 70 lids is where the widemount spoiler bolted.

I'll throw this in there....how about the '69-'70 Grand Prix trunk lid that was the same as the A-body?
