What modifications to 455 Pontiac block or heads for hydraulic roller cam?
What modifications if any would need to be made in order to run a hydraulic roller cam in my 1975 Pontiac 455. I am looking at either the Stump Puller or Old Faithful cam.
I have Edelbrock 87cc D port heads,Harland Sharp 1.5 roller rockers,TRW forged pistons and PRW I beam forged rods with stock prepped crank. All of this is at zero deck. |

Bronze or polymer distributor gear; ensure the spring package on your heads is adequate: seat pressure; open pressure; IH and CB.

None to the block it self but over all you will need the stuff listed above.

Talk about nickle and diming a guy to death. Just when you think you must have everything you need, along comes some other $100 part that you didn't think about. That bank account statement is spot on.

It doesn't end there....is your fuel system capable of keeping up with the additional horsepower?,does your exhaust flow well enough?,will you have traction issues....etc...

thanks..well i know its easy to swipe that card, i guess i didnt realize that you didnt need any machine work done to the block for a roller cam install.. i may just be going that route in the future

I had to cut my valve guides down .15" to gain retainer to seal clearance because of the additional lift. Oh, and I added spring cups while I was in there which required spring seat machining...(although not neccesarily a roller cam issues)

possibly a cam button installed. some billet cams have a steel distributor gear pressed on so no need to change your distributor gear.

The 'Stump puller' or "Old Faithfull" cams mentioned here will have a steel billet core. As already stated, bronze or polymer distributor gear.
