Default Distributor options

Alright, after having my engine all together with my edlebrock 750 on the performer rpm I purchased a dual quad intake and carter carbs. Well I had an HEI distributor on but. . . Doesn't fit with the P65 intake manifold. So I did some research and still am but a little lost on what direction I should go. I still have my points distributor but its rough. And I don't want to spend a ton of money on the distributor but I will spend what I have to to make it reliable. Help please!

Why not get one of those Pertronix ready to run unit? Same size as a points dist, with electronic guts.

Or maybe install an Ignitor electronic module in your actual dist?

If Dave is still around, I'd use a Dave's Smallbody HEI. Send him your points distributor and he'll make it into an HEI. He did one for me and it was great.
Search "Dave's Smallbody HEI" on Google........

My points distributor does fit but only turns so far before an ear of the cap hit the manifold. I will look up Dave.

Is there a place I can get all the necessary parts to rebuild my points distributor and I'll add a HEI conversion kit. I'm looking at the Pertronix 1181ls or the pertronix 91181

I'd like to get a unit to fit under my points distributor if possible.

the Accel has the same body size as an original points unit.....put a black cap on it...

I ran a pertronix conversion at one time....nothing wrong with them as well.....

..if your wanting to keep the "points" distributor, either rebuild it yourself or have someone do it for you....really nothing to them either way.....

Where can I find the parts needed to rebuild my points distributor?

Honestly, if you're asking where to get simple distributor parts, I would recommend having someone else do the work for you....

If you are really interested in doing it your self:

Do an internet search for Distributor rebuild....every car magazine has an article posted

any auto supply has these parts:
cap
rotor
points
condenser
weight, spring and bushing kit for fine tuning advance
vacuum advance can
shims

In addition to the previous parts list- don't forget the gear.

For a simple conversion to electronic from points while keeping the stock look with stock coil, years ago I used the Mallory unilite conversion. It was simple and fit easily.

As far as the tab on the body of the distributor hitting either the firewall or intake, you can pull the distributor and re-install it 1-2 teeth off and change the wires in the cap to make up the difference. It can give you a lot of extra room to advance/retard the timing, and make the vacuum canister easier to reach.

I'm really not worried about a stock look as I was planning on running my HEI distributor. I would like to use it but it simply doesn't fit. I think I may pick up a decent points distributor and run that until I decide to send my distributor to davessmallbodyhei.com

What about a Mallory 57 series or a Unilite. I was thinking about using one of those to replace my old worn distributor.

How are these distributors?

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/c...062#fragment-4

I'd be fine with running a points setup for a while until I can get a small bodied HEI
