Cool

All 400 4 speeds between 77 - 79 are W72. They never built an L78 4 speed T/A. Are we sure this isn't originally a 403 car that got updated with a Pontiac engine and 4 speed somewhere along the line. Either way the price seems very reasonable.

I'm going by what is says on the invoice which is shown in the original post. Also the VIN X indicates the Pontiac 400.

Don't you mean "Z" for the 400 4-speed?

All 79 W72's list the motor on the build sheet as L78 and the W72 performance package is listed as a separate line item, even though we all know they are W72 motors. Not sure why they did them this way.

Did WS6 in 79 require you to take the W72 option while they were available? Or was it the 4 speed that required W72. Much different than 78 when I ordered my W72/WS6 car. They were separate options.

In 79, W72 required the 4 speed trans and the WS6 package.

I looked at a silver 79 w72 very just likethat one here in nj a few years ago. Same story, the car had been sitting in PA when the guy acquired it with no title. It had aftermarket carb and intake, and battery in the trunk. It had a doug nash 5 speed and roller tip rockers. It also had a old nitrous tank in the trunk.Car was supposedly sitting since the 80's also. I can't remember how much he sold it for, but it sold fast.

Current status: original long block removed and disassembled for inspection at machine shop to clean and inspect block and parts, everything looks good and usable as is with new rings bearings and gaskets.
