More than likely an automatic car.

It sure is. I had thought, given the location of the body mounts, that the body and frame were joined earlier in the process.

Nope; looks right. That car will be on the ground and driving out the back door in an hour or so (no more than two).

All 66 GTO's came with the resonators.

Note - The "C" is upside down at the end of PONTIAC.

The upside down C is probably a code for someone down the line...... "Beer here!" LOL

And yes, some workers would really throw beer bottles in behind the interior panels. A friend of the family had a rattle in his brand new 65 Catalina 2dr HT. The dealer pulled the right rear panel and that's what they found. An empty Millers beer bottle. Over the years I've heard other stories that ended the way... beer or softdrink bottles found behind any of the interior panels. I used to find them in the trunk when loading at the plant in St. Therese, PQ, and other plants too.

Cool COOL PIC

I always liked this image.
I used it back when I was looking for placement of the resonator on my 4spd '66 SPRINT.
It was the reference I could really find other then the service manual.

Overtime, Cool!

Years ago I had both side tailpipes with their OEM resonators still in very good condition and intended to maybe put them on a GTO. They sat for years in storage until I finally threw them away. Damn it!

I have since found a few NOS ones just in case the need arises.

That whole tail panel seems to be messed up on the right side.

Great pic RAII,

I find 2 things interesting,

1 the rod used to guide the body down onto the body mount. (I will try to use something similar when I lower my body down)

2. the hanger goes around the middle of the resonator. I would think it would go before and/or after the resonator, not around the middle.

love these old assembly line photos, very cool.

Thanks for posting

Strap around the resonator was planned obsolescence. Would rust out quicker so you would go back to the dealer to buy a new one.
Story I remember on the beer bottles was on a Cadillac. Guy had a rattle in the drivers door (where he could hear it better) and went back bitching. Dealer found a bottle in the door and removed it with great apologies. Guy now hears a rattle in the passenger door and goes back bitching. Dealer finds a bottle in the passenger door with a note. "Didn't think you would find two of them did you rich bastard."

Scott Tiemann used "Rods" to reinstall the body on my "georgia" mint 66 convertible frame (under my 64 GTO).
