I remember them running as A/Stockers at the Indy Nationals in 1964.

Jeez, I'm older than dirt.

There's a guy who shows up occasionally at local cruises with a '64 sedan with a 427 SOHC engine. Yeah, it's a "Car that never was," but WAY cool.

i had a buddy with a few r codes..he was 20 years older than me, at least..he had an earlier 406 trips car too...he was as crazy about those cars like i am about 69-70 GTOs and i never understood it..but, with age, i get it...

i always thought he was a nut bag liking thos big old boats...but , i like them too now..especially this one..id never restore it..id drive it like it is..never touch it...and enjoy it...

Replace "Blue Bonnet" with "Pontiac" and this would be perfect IMO http://youtu.be/Pkm4HY-3cD8

Those big-block (FE) Fords did have a distinctive sound. The collectors on the headers exited about halfway up the door. I thought at the time that might have been the difference.

I still like the 426 Stage III Mopar better though.

My older brother had a 1963 1/2 Galaxie 427 4 speed R car in 1964. That was one one car that always stuck in my mind, it was a beast. He traded it in for a 1965 GTO, and that was the car that turned me on to Pontiacs.

I remember at my 1st job, the son of a Ford, Lincoln, Mercury dealership owner showed up with a brand new black on black one of these, 4 speed to boot. Wasn't a Ford fan but could have been easily converted if GTO's hadn't been out.

I pulled the 69 bird out of the backyard today and took it for a little spin. As ugly and ragged out as that car is it still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

That was very pleasant to watch.

He was correct when he stated that a little Suzuki turbo could beat him but those just don't give you the same sensation.

My Dad had a 64 but not with the 427 and I remember some neighborhoid punk throwing a brick at the rear quarter and it just bounced off and not even a dent!

That's what you call heavy metal.

While living in Greensboro NC I heard many times the "urban legend" of a 1964 Ford Galaxie w a Jato Rocket and I always said BS! Well, I was wrong! Seems that a Winston Salem NC tobacco heir in fact ordered one and had a rocket attached to the rear housing! 1st time I remember actually seeing the car was on a televised auction a few years ago.

Any way...

Love those old R-code '64 Galaxies. On my top 5 list. Black with a red interior, please.

He must start it regularly since all need to do was put some gas in the carb bowls and put the battery in. Brakes worked fine.

A old boss I had had a 62(? IIR) Ford cheapo 2 dr. sedan with four(4) big tail pipes hanging out the back....it was a cammer.

That was very cool. I love those era Galaxies. A 427 makes it that much sweeter.
