If you need the ability to use the timing control functions, yes.
The grid allows you to do everything RPM based like you could with a digital 7, while also allowing the option to control the timing based over time, which has intriguing possibilities at the race track. The box shows to be within 10 rpm of a Racepak display dash when the engine is running as well, FWIW. The black box that is part of the grid puts out more "spark" than the digital 7, it is actually comparable to an 8+ box. |

I ran one all last year and am very happy with it. Best part for me was being able to review the run you can learn a lot about what you are doing and what the car is doing.
