Default 421 Piston Recommendations

Hi all, Time to get pistons for the original WG 421 for my 1965 2+2. Planned build will be .060 overbore (necessary) aftermarket forged rods, moly rings, original 76 casting heads, Ram air IV cam, Rhodes lifters, Tripower and H.O. exhaust manifolds. I do not have a ton of $$$ for this motor so no custom units for me. Should I go cast? forged? any recommendations for a manufacturer? The last one I built had a set from Warrior racing and I do not think they are in business any longer. any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

My two cents, going .060 over will create more heat.

8 lug, I dont have a choice on .060. I know the heat build up will be a problem but I really want to use the original block. I will not be drag racing but will be thumping around on the street. being a manual trans car, it will see lots of RPM swings.

.060 is not a problem in these early motors. Won't run noticably warmer.

As with Jim above, I am also running BRC Forged pistons in my 63 - 421 bored 30 over (~428).

BRC has a very good tech dept should you have any questions.
(386)364-5623

However, I did not purchase them directly through BRC,. Mine were purchased through
Ken at Ken's Machine Shop

Phone (352) 796-8800
Email: pontiacdude@outlook.com

Ken helped in determining the correct dish-out which enabled me to run on pump gas ~ 9.8 compression ratio.

Did the block already go +030?

If you could sneak by at 4.125 that gives you a lot of ring choices.

The +.005 Race Tec is a sweet piece.

Assume all thread watchers have seen the build in HPP -- very cool, and much along these lines. Really put a hurt on the dyno!!!
